The Northern England / Yorkshire/Yorkshire Dales region
The North York Moors National Park covers 554 square miles, with landscape ranging from heather-clad moorland and deep secluded dales, to the cliffs and coves of the magnificent coastline. A haven for walkers, the area also boasts great cycling, gliding, riding and fishing, whilst North York Moors Railway is the perfect way to enjoy the beautiful scenery in a more relaxed setting.
Visit the market towns of Pickering or Thirsk; the latter famous for its links with the English country vet and author, James Herriot. Nearby, some of Yorkshire’s best-loved villages including Thornton-le-Dale and Rosedale Abbey offer a taste of village life, as does Goathland, ‘Aidensfield’ in the TV series ‘Heartbeat’. Finally, stop off at Castle Howard and Duncombe Park, two of Britain’s most historic stately homes situated in breathtaking parklands and gardens.
The cliffs, sandy beaches and smugglers’ caves of the Yorkshire coastline are a haven for beachcombers and coastal walkers. Discover the quaint fishing villages of Robin Hood’s Bay and Staithes, with their brightly coloured fishing boats. Finally, there’s the historic city of York, with its interactive Viking Centre, Roman walls, medieval streets, vibrant shops and gothic York Minster cathedral.
The Selby / North Duffield area
Just 12 miles south of York are the pretty Yorkshire villages of North Duffield and Skipwith. Each village has a lovely green with pond and a traditional country pub and is composed of a mixture of old red brick and modern houses. Skipwith’s church dates back to the Anglo Saxon times, whilst the North Duffield equivalent is a 19th Century Methodist chapel. Ideal for escaping all the stresses and strains of modern life, these peaceful little settlements are within easy driving distance of a 1000-acre nature reserve and Skipton common, making this a fabulous location for bird-watchers. The market town of Selby is just seven miles away and boasts a beautiful abbey, whilst York Minster is also within easy driving distance and has park and ride facilities to make getting in and out of the city easier.

Guestbook for 1630 - Lawns House Farm
The house had plenty of space and the garden was excellent for young children. I enjoyed the holiday and the property. It was ideal for a family get together of 12 people ranging in age from 8 months to 70+ years. The area, although not in a major tourist zone, still provided plenty to do.

,Fantastic value for money. The property was within driving distance of activities and places to visit for all 13 members of our family, from age 3 to 83. The property is spacious and is much bigger than it looks in photographs. It is set in a beautiful and quiet location and the welcome packets of biscuits, refreshments and milk were much appreciated. Very helpful caretaker.

,The garden was good for our young children, it was enclosed and safe. The house and rooms are large and the owner very helpful. The location was peaceful and safe and the animals were interesting for the children. The downstairs bedroom was a plus as we had our 91 year old Mum with us. We could have stayed another week.
