Home description

Nestled in the valley south of Carrouges you will find our ‘bijou’ gite. Surrounded by the fertile rolling countryside of Normandy the accommodation is set in one of the loveliest landscapes of France. Come and experience it for yourself!

Les Violettes sleeps two with a single bed for a child or a cot for a baby. From the romantic beams and patchwork quilt of the bedroom there is a modern bathroom with a hydro shower. Downstairs there is a Lounge/diner with an efficient log burner for those cooler nights in autumn. Satellite television is on tap to watch your favourite programmes or why not snuggle up on the sofa and read a book. The beamed lounge leads to a well equipped kitchen. The main door opens onto the private patio where you can dine al fresco or why not a BBQ. The meadows that adjoin are for your use, take a rug and a bottle of wine keep an eye out for "Henri the hare" that turns up occasionally.

The Normandy / Orne region

Les Violettes could be a hideaway to relax, or a base for visiting the region. The cottage accommodates all. For those wanting to birdwatch, explore the flora and fauna, painting, fishing is available in local lakes. Explore the beautiful chateaux and gardens of Normandy which is part of our English history as told in the Bayeaux Tapestry.

Sporting activities: with over 40 golf courses to choose from in Normandy and voted among the best golf courses in the world.

If angling appeals, you will be amazed at the amount of rivers particularly dominant with trout, lakes and gravel pits that are well stocked with large 40lb + carp.

For the more energetic and daring, other activities such as rock climbing and bungy jumping prove popular.

Sees / Carrouges area

The region is so diverse in what it can offer, why not visit a cider making farm where of course tasting takes place or visit a Camembert factory. The gastronomie of the region can either be sought in the local supermarkets and markets and restaurants. The nearest village is Carrouges with a Fete de la Chasse that takes place in August date to be fixed. This interesting Fete is held in the scenic grounds of the Chateau. Alencon has a good museum which shows the development of lace. Sees is also a town worth visiting. Ferte Mace is our nearest beach and also agood shopping area.

Visit the historic La Fosse Arthour with it's beautiful waterfall, horse riding facilities and restaurant - easily accessable from our location. The medieval town of Domfront with historic interest and numerous restaurants, bars and cafes are within close proximity. The bustling town of Flers with shops, swimming pool and Castle museum is only a car journey away.

The spa resort and casino town Bagnoles-de-l'Orne is a 20 minute drive - here you will find a variety of restaurants, a lake with pedalos and a golf course. Other places of interest are Ger the regional pottery museum, Saint-Fraimbault a 4 star floral village, Mortain waterfalls, La Ferte-Mace the toy museum and Tinchebray the 'Royal Prison' museum is also an interesting visit.

There are also tours where you'll find The Stud Farm and Chateau route, the 'land of Lancelot of the Lake' route. If you just want to relax and recoupirate, Lonlay L'Abbaye is the perfect location to read, walk, run or cycle as the area has quiet roads, a great deal to see and lovely scenery.
