The Paphos region
With its population of only 27,000 inhabitants Paphos is the capital of Cyprus' western region. Paphos consists of two areas: the coastal resort area (Kato Paphos) and the town itself (Pano Paphos) which is slightly inland.
Paphos is very popular with tourists, and especially with English, German and Scandinavian tourists. The climate of Cyprus makes the summer months a popular time for tourism in Paphos, when temperatures reach easilly into the mid 30 degrees celcius every day.
Among its attractions Paphos offers ancient mosaic floors, its beautiful old harbour, its modern hotels and restaurants, situated along the seaside promenade. Other sights include an archaeological museum, the Byzantine castle of Paphos, the Tombs of the Kings, St. Paul's Pillar and the Temple of Aphrodite (the goddess of love and beauty).
The whole area offers visitors access to majestic landscapes, a magnificent coastline, historical treasures and delightful villages where many traditions influence everyday life. The area caters for everyone, and promises to make your holiday one to remember
Secret Valley Resort
The bungalow occupies a peaceful and secure setting, perfect for those who want to combine plentiful sun, beautiful views and relaxing by a swimming pool.
Secret Valley is centrally located so an ideal location for touring the island.
The new Secret Valley Golf course, opened in September 2013, is a challenging 18 holes, 6,120m par 72 course, set in a spectacular setting in a scenic valley with grand trees and beautiful sculpted rock formations all round. There is a driving range, chipping, pitching and putting practice areas. The club house has spectacular views, with outdoor seating that looks either down the 18th hole or towards the hill formations. The restaurant has an extensive menu.
The coastline near Secret Valley is unspoilt and has amazing panaromic views of the sea and hills. The surrounding area is rich in history dating back to the days of the Trojan Wars. There are beautiful cliff top walks, signposted to Petra Tou Romiou (Aphrodite Rocks).
Kouklia is the nearest village to Secret Valley. The village square is closed to traffic at night time thereby allowing the tavernas to set tables outside to sit under the stars at the side of the local church. In the main season weekly Cypriot Nights are held and dancing in the streets is expected!
Pissouri is split into two. The lower half has restaurants and a beach with water sports, whilst the upper village is a warren of streets with numerous restaurants, tavernas and bars again in main season the centre has a weekly 'Cypriot Night'. There is also an amphitheatre, if there is a show scheduled for your stay it is well worth the visit. The amphitheatre looks out over the bay along the coast and allows you to take your own cool box, so a really chilled night out.
The resort of Aphrodite Hills is approximately 5 minute drive, here there are restaurants (more expensive than the local villages but convenient), there are spa facilities, tennis, golf lessons, horse riding and there is also a children's outside play area and creche - all these services are available for non residents use.
A visit to The Retreat at Aphrodite Hills is the ultimate in top-to-toe pampering for body and mind. From the moment you enter the cool serenity of The Retreats monastic interior you are immersed in tranquil surroundings, where superb facilities and an expert team of therapists tend to your every need. Day passes, special group rates, pre-booked single treatments and half/full day packages are all available at The Retreat.
Mandria is approximately 15 minute drive, again various tavernas some offer take away service.

"Our second visit - and it won't be our last!"
This was our second holiday in the bungalow at Secret Valley. Once again, we were delighted with the bright, clean, open space of the bungalow which was large enough for the four in our family (including one 7 year old and one teenager) and another relative, and of course the pool which is a good size and always lovely and clean.
The best thing about coming back to the bungalow was that we felt at home straight away, and as well as being able to visit a few favourite places from last year, we did some more exploring and found a few new favourite places this year.
Everybody that we met in Cyprus was friendly and welcoming, the food was always excellent when we chose to eat out and the bungalow is well-equipped enough to be able to prepare meals to eat in. Kathy and Bill who look after the bungalow are a huge asset and are on hand to help out with local knowledge and recommendations if you need them.
We are quite sure that this won't be our last visit to Cyprus - there's something about the place that draws us back - and we would love to stay at the bungalow again if we do return.

"Excellent villa - 3 showers - believe me it's worth it"
Secret Valley as the name suggests is a beautiful resort next to the more opulent Aphrodite Hills. At the time of our visit the resorts golf course was undergoing substantial renovation and a new 18 h… More

"Excellent professional and very high standard of villa and service!"
We have returned for the 2nd year running to the same villa in Secret Valley in Cyprus, near Pathos. The villa is of a very good standard. The location is perfect for those who want to be out of the tourist areas in a very pretty location near the sea but perfectly situated to be 15 mins from Pathos, 5 min from the local village life and great access to the rest of the island if you want to go to the Troudos mountains, Larnica, Nicosia etc.....
The Villa we stayed in was looked after by Kathy & Bill who are a charming couple who go out of their way to make your stay completely problem free. My parents are elderly and have a few difficulties with mobility. Bill arranged our car hire and picked us up from the airport which meant no waiting around to fill in forms, and drove us to the villa which meant a completely hassle free airport transfer. On arrival at the villa Kathy had made sure we had basic provision to see us through until we got to the supermarket. The villas was immaculate, beds all made, lights on (we arrived in the evening) and a real feel of welcome. Bill settled us in and advised if we needed anything just to give him a call. Couldn't have been any easier. We saw both Kathy & Bill throughout the holiday, either just a to say hi or when popping in to clean the pool.
Having worked for Thomson Holidays in resorts throughout Europe for many years, I would like to say the standard of service and quality of the villa was extremely high. Kathy & Bill certainly go out of their way to make sure your holiday is a comfortable and problem free and offer a customer service which is outstanding. Thank you both of you.

"Lovely bungalow - a real treat to stay in!"
We stayed in the bungalow which was lovely and spacious, well-maintained and very clean - plenty of room for two adults, a teenager and a 6 year old! We could even have taken grandparents with us and still not have been living on top of each other. Having the pool to dip into whenever we wanted was a real joy, especially given the heat of a Cyprus August! Kathy and Bill who look after the bungalow were very friendly and knowledgeable, regularly around to clean the pool or change the sheets, and full of advice on directions, places to eat, places to visit etc. An added bonus as we flew out to Cyprus with Easy Jet was that because there is a washing machine, we were able to just take one week's worth of clothes and then wash them there, saving lots of money on luggage fees!
The pool is not fenced off so we spent time before our visit coaching our 6 year old that she did not go into the pool without an adult. It didn't cause any problems for us, she absolutely loved the water and her swimming confidence improved 100% over the two weeks we were there.
A car is essential - the bungalow is in a quiet cul-de-sac in a residential area which suited us fine, but you have to drive to shops and attractions. Nothing is very far away; 10 minutes to a supermarket, 25-30 minutes to Paphos - the roads are generally quite quiet and well-signposted. The area and coastline is beautiful and an hour's drive takes you up into the mountains with more breath-taking scenery.
Finally: there is no safe in the bungalow so don't be tempted to take valuables that you can't carry around with you - a good excuse to leave gadgets at home!
It's very easy to feel very much at home in Cyprus in a short space of time; they drive on the left, their traffic lights are the same as ours, their plugs are the same as those in the UK and signs are generally in both English and Greek. We had some excellent meals, enjoyed a local festival and really appreciated the warm welcome that we received. We loved Cyprus and are already planning our next holiday!
