The property is situated between the village of Le Beugnon and the ancient town of Secondigny. The Gite is modern and comfortable with two double bedrooms, and two further bedrooms each having bunk beds and a cot
Visitors love the pool area which is safely fenced, spacious and partly sheltered against the sun, in this, the second sunniest region in France with 2,600 hours of sunshine per year (Atlas Tisserot). The Poitou-Charentes / Vendee / Deux Sevres region
La Rourie, in the Deux Sevre region of the Poitou Charentes, the second sunniest region in France, has views of rolling countryside and forests. It is quiet, with very few cars and just the occasional tractor. If you are looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of life, this is the right place. The weather is amongst the best in France and the area is steeped in history with numerous medieval towns
There are many places of interest in the Deux-Sevres area, including La Rochelle and the Ile de Re (60 miles) An early start is required for a wonderful day-out in this magnificent old port. The seafood restaurants are fantastic and the vast aquarium should not be missed. A trip to the Ile de Re with its 30 kilometres of beaches is highly recommended, Poitiers (46 miles) is well worth a visit. It was once an English town through royal marriage but the French soon after recovered this ‘city of arts’. Its most famous building is the richly decorated church of Notre Dame de Grande (nearby is the oldest Christian edifice in France the baptistery of St Jean circa 380). The city contains many architectural gems and superb restaurants.
Marais Poitevin, referred to as the Green Venice is the largest complex of man-made waterways in France and the second largest area of wetlands. This maze of canals, dug by monks in the 13th century covers 100,000 hectares and is bordered by poplars and ash trees, the land being dedicated to cattle breeding and market gardening. Explore the area by boat or hire a canoe and make your own way through the waterways. Use Coulon, (20 miles) one of the most beautiful villages in France, as your starting point. It has a number of boat and cycle hire companies and a mini train plus some wonderful restaurants.
Parc de la Vallee (40 miles approx) This is an amusement park situated near Thouars, in the north of the Deux Sevre. Its attractions include a water park with many slides, ferris wheel, go-carts, a play barn and a children's not-so-big dipper. Most activities are for younger children but there is plenty for older kids to enjoy. For example, Fort River, a wild west setting with cowboys and Indians and shows including shoot-outs, bank robberies and train robberies. There is also a picnic area
Zoodyssee (40 miles approx) This animal park in the forest of Chize, is a must-see! It houses over 600 animals in 25 hectares of natural landscape, with an emphasis on wild European animals. To ensure a natural environment, the park has a landscape full of the natural fauna from the animals’ habitats.
Puy du Fou (54 Miles approx) Here, families with children can choose between a wonderful day or a wonderful evening’s entertainment. From June to September, the medieval village and chateau of Puy de Fou is home to both a round of day-time shows and activities and a night-time grand opera cum ballet. At night-fall, the performance begins and lasts for 2 hours. The scene viewed is of a ruined castle and a lake. The story told is that of the Maupillier family throughout the centuries. From the 12,000 seater stands one watches with amazement the 650 actors and 50 horse-men ‘walking on water’ and marvels at the fountains, lasers, firework displays and cine-scenes, which are synchronised with their movements, creating a totally beautiful and unique spectacle. It is imperative that you book the evening performance in advance. The day is not to be missed by children of any age, who will marvel at the jousting skills of the knights and the astonishing antics of the birds of prey and will participate in ‘medieval’ activities of many kinds. http://www.puydufou.com/uk/
Futuroscope (52 miles approx) The place in Europe to see the magic of film on spherical, circular or flat screens with 3D experiences of formula 1 car rides and cyber trips. New attractions include, The Robot Zoo and Dances with Robots and ‘The Forest of Dream’ – a spectacular new evening show. http://uk.futuroscope.com/
Cognac (75miles) The worlds most famous name for brandy comes from this beautiful town astride the river Charente. Why not visit the Couvoisier or the Remy Martin distilleries for a tour and a tasting? Be careful not to get carried-away in the shop at the end of your trip!
The Loire Valley is just north of Deux Sevres and has a host of beautiful chateaux to explore
Secondigny / La Rourie area
Within 3 miles you have the small town of Secondigny, with its 9th century church, an excellent supermarket and many small shops. There is also a beautiful lake, which you can fish on obtaining the necessary permit, with a children’s play area, ‘beach’ and competition-sized swimming pool.
Parthenay (11 miles) is a picturesque fortified town with excellent shops and restaurants around the Castle area. Head for the beautifully preserved Rue St Jacque, in the old town, which is part of the medieval route to Santiago de Compastella.
Niort (23 Miles) is a larger but equally interesting old town and is the capital of the Deux Sevres. Head for the old castle and dungeon and don’t miss the shopping in the old area opposite the castle. The Saturday morning food market is really alive!
‘GatineO’ (11 miles) A new, large leisure facility in Parthenay. With four pools to choose from, a solarium and a ‘beach’, adults and children alike find plenty to enjoy. Throw in a water slide, a volleyball area, a beauty centre and a medical facility and the centre is far more than just a swimming complex.

This area is a fisherman’s dream. There are many lakes within close proximity and Pescalis which is the largest fishing centre in Europe, with a hundred hectares of lakes, is also close by.
