Stepps Barn remains one of our most popular destinations and in our opinion offers a superior standard of holiday accommodation. Furnished and equipped throughout in traditional country style, the property features some interesting antiques, a wonderful Inglenook fireplace and a stylish blue Aga in the kitchen if you fancy cooking in real farmhouse fashion. Table tennis and pool are on hand at the property for evening or rainy day entertainment and a golf course is within easy reach. Boat launching facilities are a short drive away and the nearby River Axe is a haven for bird watchers. If all this isn't enough, there are some lovely country walks in the area.

Stepps Barn provides quality accommodation particularly suitable for large parties, families or couples seeking lots of space. Despite its name, there are only a few 'steps' here and the stairs in the property are straight! A property difficult to better any time of the year.

Seaton, Devon

A holiday cottage in Axmouth has something for everyone. Steeped in history this tranquil and picturesque village is surrounded by unspoilt rolling countryside that is home to a variety of wildlife species and provides the opportunity for many varied and peaceful walking holidays in Devon and Dorset.

Dating back to the 7th Century, Axmouth was once a smuggling centre and important port. It is now a delightful country village, featuring fine examples of 18th & 19th Century farmhouses and cottages, and within easy access to the coast at Seaton.

Axmouth village is home to a lovely old church, two local inns and a Post Office/store. The Axe estuary is a haven for birds throughout the year and makes a dog friendly pleasant walk to the pretty Axe Harbour and Axe Cliff Golf Club. The beach at Seaton is just a little further and from the village you can access the South West Coastal path which leads through the Landslip or Undercliff.

"Diappointing as not as described and when we complained the company were not interested. An expensive mistake."

Stepps Barn cottage did not live up to its 5 star rating. It was poorly prepared before our stay – dirty linen in the bedrooms from a previous occupant. The beds were not comfy with limited bed linen and small towels provided. The appliances did not work as expected – shower controls difficult to adjust therefore a boiling shower, Aga turned itself off and cooker thermostat inaccurate making cooking for 8 difficult, tumble drier ineffective – even after following instructions to empty water chamber (every 17 minutes). The standard of crockery and cutlery was disappointing rather a mishmash. The cottage was not particularly clean.
However it was warm with plenty of hot water, there was a Christmas tree and mince pies on arrival.
Definitely not value for money and when we brought our concerns to the company apparently it was too late, so if you rent this – make sure you read the booking conditions and complaints procedure carefully.

May we state our point of view on this review.

As a holiday company it is in our utmost interest to make sure our guests are comfortable and happy. Unfortunately this guest did not take the opportunity to make any complaints, other than a faulty key, on the day after their arrival (23rd December) when we had to visit them to sort a problem with the key. The key was exchanged, the guest was more than happy with the result and even invited us in for a beverage, it was at this stage they were informed that the emergency phone, which they had contacted us on, would be left on should there be any further problems. We did not receive any further communication on the phone or indeed at our office which was open for several days during the Christmas period.
Quite naturally we understood that this guest was completely satisfied.

Our terms and conditions quite clearly state that any complaints should be notified to the office immediately so we have the opportunity to rectify them. We only received an email from this guest on 3rd January, several days after they ended their holiday.

May we add that the equipment problem was due to user error, which is quite understandable when you are in unfamiliar territory, again this could have been discussed and rectified by us had we been advised.
