Orchid Cottage, although recently refurbished, dates back to the 19th Century when it was part of the building that comprising the Axmouth village post office and stores. It nestles in a valley with steep inclines providing field and woodland views from the front and rear of the house. Orchid cottage is a spacious 3 bedroom, with occassional 4th bedroom, end of terrace property that can comfortably accommodate 6 people with the possibility of a 7th person by arrangement. It is elegantly presented with good quality furnishings and is cosy and warm in colder months with modern efficient central heating and good insulation through the majority of the cottage.
With its deceptively spacious interior and its flexible accommodation Orchid Cottage is suitable for a variety of guest groups including families, and groups of friends or relatives. It will appeal to those that appreciate a clean and tidy property and place this high on their list of requirements. In this regard we request that outside footwear not be worn inside the cottage.
The large living room has two leather sofas and an antique leather chair, with an electric fire-effect heater for cosy evenings. The large kitchen/diner has a large dining table with six chairs and a folding chair for an occasional seventh person. The family bathroom is upstairs off the landing. There is a large upstairs master bedroom with double bed, double wardrobe and en-suite shower room/WC. A further upstairs double bedroom with double wardrobe, and an upstairs twin bedroom with small wardrobe. The occassional 4th bedroom/snug room is located downstairs with a dual purpose single day bed.
Orchid Cottage is well equipped with modern and high quality appliances. In the living room there is a wireless broadband router, DAB radio//iPhone dock/CD/ Bluetooth Hi Fi, Samsung 40" LED TV and Blu-ray/DVD player. The kitchen is equipped with a large fridge/freezer, a washing machine, an electric double oven and hob, microwave oven and toaster. A iron and board and two hairdryers are provided. There is also a DAB radio/clock/iPhone/iPod dock in the master bedroom. Our own informal written guide of places to visit, that we regularly update, is available for guests to read and we try to maintain a selection of local interest and guide books as a reference library. We hope that this will help guests to make the most of their holidays.
An outside patio to the rear with seating for 6 people and the private back garden is decoratively planted to provide colour and interest throughout the year. There is ample parking both on street and an allocated space behind the property. A children's play area is located a short walk along the quiet lane that passes the front of the cottage.
The seaside town of Seaton is just over 1 mile from the cottage and can provide most of your daily supplies and ammenities including two supermarkets. Lyme Regis and Axminster are also both close, approximately 6 miles by car.
With close proximity to the Jurassic coast and inland attractions you will not be short of activities.

The Devon region
Orchid Cottage is located on between Lyme Regis and Seaton on the Devon/Dorset county border. The close proximity to major trunk roads and central location in the West Country means that day trips throughout Devon, Dorset, Somerset and even into Cornwall are possible. The two national parks Dartmoor and Exmoor are within easy reach, as are the Blackdown Hills, providing innumerable places to visit and fantastic walks and scenic views. The Devon South Hams with the seaside towns of Dartmouth, Salcombe, Paignton, Brixham and Torquay can also easily be visited as a day trip. Travel throughout Dorset to Weymouth and beyond is also within easy using Orchid Cottage as a base. The catherdral city of Exeter is just 28 miles away for more serious shopping expeditions, or just to visit the historic sites such as the quayside or the cathedral itself.
Located just 1 mile from Seaton, Axmouth is a picturesque Devon village, full of quaint old thatched cottages, lying next to the River Axe which is rich in wildlife and offers opportunities for sailing, fishing and canoeing. Ancient Axmouth harbour is just a mile away from Orchid Cottage and has a marina and access eastward to an isolated beach below Haven Cliff and westward to the seafont at Seaton. There are extensive walking paths in the immediate vicinity of Orchid Cottage including the south west coastal path extending west to Branscombe and on to Sidmouth and east through the Undercliffe national nature reserve to Lyme Regis. Beautiful and atmospheric Lyme Regis, known as a Pearl of Dorset, is only 6 miles away. Slightly further into Dorset there are fantastic yellow cliffs of Burton Bradstock, West Bay and Fresh Water and full of fossil beaches and the unforgettable sub-tropical gardens and Swannery in Abbotsbury. Devon has lots to offer too, beautiful Axmouth harbour, a tramline leading through the Axe and Coly valleys, Burrow Farm gardens, Beer with its caves and Pecorama, Sidmouth with great town gardens, red cliffs, Jacob's ladder and walks towards Ladram bay.
Devon and Dorset are known for their food as well - with an abundance of fresh fish, great pubs and restaurants, fabulous Dorset apple cake, Moore's biscuits, bread baked in the traditional way, dressed crabs, fresh fruit and vegetables, and a variety of wild game.
