Northern England region

The northerly county of Northumberland is a hidden gem of totally unspoilt countryside and wonderful long stretches of pristine sandy beaches. If you want to stretch your legs and breathe in clean country air this is the place for you, with miles of wide open spaces and magnificent views. The county has three distinct sub regions; a coastline stretching some forty miles with quiet sandy beaches and pretty coastal harbour villages. Inland visitors will find dramatic rolling moorland and forests, much of which is National Park and to the south of the region is the famous Hadrian's Wall which runs coast to coast and is now a World Heritage Site. Apart from Northumberland's natural assets the county is steeped in history and has had a turbulent past which is characterised by more than its fair share of castles and ancient hill forts, some of which were built to repel Viking invaders. It was also the scene of the border wars and conflicts between the English and Scots in the 14th-16th century.

Seahouses

Seahouses is a beautiful place to fish with many companies offering boat trips out to fish or lessons for beginners to learn the ropes. After a day out fishing, there is nothing better than visiting the local restaurants and tasting some delicious fresh fish. For those who prefer to explore the area inland, there are plenty of walking and cycling routes including coastal walks and the Great North Bike Ride which is a charity event held every year in August. Golf is an admired sport within Seahouses with a golf course for golfing enthusiasts and a crazy golf course which is perfect for the whole family to get involved. Seahouses has fantastic horse riding facilities with Slate Hall Riding Centre who offer beach rides and superb trekking which is a perfect way to spend the day for any experienced rider. For those who prefer to soak up some history, Bamburgh Castle is located nearby and is well known for magnificent facts and displays. Many different birds have been spotted in the area of Seahouses such as Puffins, Eiders and Terns which are just to name a few - Seahouses offers an ideal place for bird watchers. Beadnell is well known for hosting many different types of water sport activities and has a beautiful sandy beach area called Beadnell Bay that is popular with the tourists in the summer months. Water sports include windsurfing, kite surfing, diving and body boarding which are just to name a few and there are plenty of centres that offer courses, guidance and equipment for these different sports. For a more relaxing and peaceful activity, Beadnell offers plenty of walks that take advantage of the stunning coast line.
