Northern England region

North Northumberland is packed with vibrant villages and exciting things to do.

Once home to the Anglo-Saxon kings of Northumbria, the north of our county is a stunning mix of history and natural beauty.

Ancient rock art carved at LordenshawMuch of the area's past has been lost in time, a few clues to those ancient civilisations can be found in the mysterious rock art that dots the northern part of the county. There is also Yeavering Bell, a hill fort built by ancient people on the edge of the Cheviot Hills.

If you're a keen birdwatcher, head to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne where you'll see a variety of rare bird life including the Marsh Harrier and Osprey and there is also the majestic sight of grey seals that inhabit the Farne Islands.

North Northumberland's beaches are a joy, long golden stretches of sand which make for fantastic walks, runs and even the odd horse ride.

Chillingham Wild CattleFurther up the coast you'll find the historic town of Berwick-upon-Tweed where you can walk the Elizabethan town walls, designed to keep out the invading Scots, and take in the stunning views across the Tweed Estuary.

Head inland and you'll find the magnificent Chillingham Wild Cattle - rarer than the giant panda - and the Ford and Etal working estates which have their own steam railway and castle

"A great place to stay"

We stayed in this house for a weeks holiday. The house is in a great location, it is on a quite street but only minutes from the town. The house is tastefully furnished & comfortable the rooms a good size so you feel you have lots of space. The kitchen was very well equipped with everything you will need. I would recommend to anyone staying in Seahouses.

It was nice to have the welcome pack, we didn't expect that.
