Scratby

A few minutes walk away in the village of California is a lovely Pub, the "California Tavern", where good food and entertainment is available. ''Moments'' restaurant is a few minutes walk away with traditional English cuisine.

The "Wheelstop Diner" restaurant and the "First and Last" pub are a walk away.

In the village Scratby, a few minutes walk, there is a local mini market and post office, garden and antiques centre, the charming "Moments" restaurant and village bakers, all are open all year round. Also available in the main season are "Abigails Bistro", there is also a hire store for deckchairs and windbreaks on the lovely sandy beach.

On May 11th, 1848 a quantity of sixteenth century gold coins was found at the foot of the cliffs near Scratby by local beachmen. At the same time the California gold rush in America was much in the news. The beachmen decided that their new village needed a name â?? and California, Norfolk came into being. By 1851 houses were being built there. By 1861 when the next population census was taking place the population of this new hamlet had risen to almost two hundred. By 1870 over forty houses had been built, plus the original California Tavern.

"AWFUL, WORST BREAK EVER. RUDE OWNER GO ELSEWHERE"

Thank you for your review. I can confirm that our terms and conditions do indeed state that - dogs must be kept on a lead at all times and dogs must not be left unattended in the accommodation at any time. Responsible dog owners like ourselves will understand why. We also have signs up and notices in the accommodation to remind owners of this. But still a few dog owners sadly choose to ignore this. I think that this particular guest was agreived when told politely that his Staffie would have to be on a lead and informed him that he shouldnt leave his dog unattended in the accommodation.
I do appologise if the linen on this occasion was not upto our suppliers high standard, we would have been only too happy to exchange it if we had been made aware at the time. No mention was made of any dissatisfaction with the accommodation of any kind during or after the holiday. The TV in the Barton lounge is a 32" flatscreen with an additional 22" flatscreen/DVD in the 14ft bedroom. 50 units of electricity is provided free of charge in the Barton, ample for a weeks stay and this also promotes the use of Green energy. Whilst we welcome dogs with responsible owners, whether booking with us or elsewhere please do read the owners terms and conditions before booking. Nick Proprietor.
