On May 11th, 1848 a quantity of sixteenth century gold coins was found at the foot of the cliffs near Scratby by local beachmen. At the same time the California gold rush in America was much in the news. The beachmen decided that their new village needed a name – and California, Norfolk came into being. By 1851 houses were being built there. By 1861 when the next population census was taking place the population of this new hamlet had risen to almost two hundred. By 1870 over forty houses had been built, plus the original California Tavern.

"Gorgeous place to stay.."
Me and my boyfriend and son stayed here for 4 nights all though the weather was absolutly terrible our holiday was still lovely.. The apartament was lovely and cosy... The only complaint was the dvd player didnt work,, but it was no big deal.. Would definatly stay again,,the beach right next to us was lots of fun for my little boy and the arcade near by.. Thankyou very much for our holiday.
Thankyou for your review - glad you were lovely & cosy and still able to enjoy the super sea views, despite the terrible weather. Sorry that you had problems with the DVD. Hope you will return to enjoy better weather here with us on the Norfolk coast.

""Barton" - Fantastic view, quiet spot."
Fantastic view, perfect cosy retreat for two, we stayed in Beach house Barton, with one bedroom. All you will need for cooking is supplied, and due to the time of year it was a quiet retreat, and just what we were looking for. Good pub 1.2 miles away, with good selection of over 20 real ales and ciders. Great beach location, and great walks.
Thankyou for your review, glad that you enjoyed your stay with us and the views from our "Barton" accommodation, hope to see you again when you next holiday in Norfolk.

"A charming seaside resort with friendly proprietors."
My husband and I stayed in the Pine Lodge on our trip to visit family near Great Yarmouth. It is such a quaint place with lots of character. The owners, Nick and Stephanie, were very helpful when I contacted them about staying there. When we arrived, they were warm and accomodating. We plan to stay there again this spring. The cottage was privace, clean and well-equipped. There was ample parking. There is a convenience store nearby. The ocean views, beach access and friendly atmosphere are well worth seeking this one out.

"a regular guest."
over the years we have had several holidays at wakefield court. we have used it for family holidays and short breaks for my husband and i.the accommodation has always been first class and the sea view is wonderful. the village itself has a good variety of shops and cafe's and a public house that does good food. it is not far from great yarmouth and the norfolk broads. we look forward to many more holidays there. roger and phyl pearson .

"A great place to stay"
The view from the lounge was fab. The chalet was cosy and comfortable. The dog was allowed to stay and we were as close to the beach as you could be so we were all happy with the position. The pillows could do with being replaced as could the matress protectors. I was concerned that the sliding doors didn't lock properly and so the place wasn't secure when we were away for the day.
Thankyou for your feedback. We are glad you enjoyed the stunning views and the beachside location. Dissapointed that you did not let us know about the pillows/protectors as we have a large stock and would have been only too pleased to have changed then for you, making your stay even more 'Cosy and comfortable'.Security is important to us and we have 24hr CCTV and security lighting and have had no incidents in the past 25years, would have been pleased to attend to your door problem.
