The Sicily region
Having visited Italy without seeing Sicily is like not having seen Italy at all, for Sicily is the key to everything". (Goethe)
Sicily, a beautiful island located in the Mediterranean Sea, with its rich natural heritage, represents one of the most interesting tourist destinations. Sun, blue sea, and beaches, are the natural attractions of a place full of history and culture, celebrated throughout the centuries by writers and poets, who have spread its fame from ancient times up to the present.
Sicily is a fascinating mixture of different races following each other over the centuries: Carthaginians, Greeks, Romans, Arabs, Byzantines, Turks, Goths, Spaniards and French. Such dominations have left their mark on the island's history and architecture as well as on Sicily's traditions and gastronomy. In fact, religious festivals, monuments and regional dishes testify that the island is a crucible of different civilizations.
It will be a fabulous holiday, as in a dream.
Sciacca Terme is an ancient and peaceful town with its thermal baths and is one of the oldest towns in Sicily. Set on the edge of the Mediterranean Sea, Sciacca is a fishing port which has remained untouched by mass tourism. The real heart of the town centre is steeped in history and ancient architecture of Moorish, and baroque style, picturesque alleyways and courtyards. A labyrinth of houses and streets, some of which can be narrow enough to fit only a single person at a time.
Artistic works of notable interest especially of the medieval and baroque peiods are conserved here. Sciacca's fame in modern times comes from her renowned hydromineral resources and to the famous Monte San Calogero natural vapour and sweat grottoes.
In addition to the enchanting landscapes, the rugged beauty of an indented coastline, to the sandy beach and to the luminosity of sea Sciacca has also a gentle healthy cliamte which makes it an ideal place for health cures, for holidays and for tourism.
