Home description
The house is located in the most famous seaside area of Sciacca, that is only 4 km away from it. This is the ideal location for a seaside holiday, as well as the starting point for excursions to many important archaeological (Selinunte, Agrigento, Segesta) and nature areas (“Scala dei Turchi” – Turkish steps, Torre Salsa, Erice). You can reach all resorts by car (approx. 1 hour). The house is surrounded by a big patio, in which also the landlord’s house is located, who will warmly welcome you with savoury snacks, local Sicilian cakes, seasonal fruits and the typical hard wheat bread. Upon departure, you will receive a bottle of extra-virgin olive oil produced in this area. The house is surrounded by a fenced olive grove (3 ha) and can be accessed through a big automatic gate. After a sunny day at the seaside or a beautiful excursion, you can have a rest in the shade of the gazebos or the olive trees, while in the evening you can enjoy a barbecue and taste the delicious Sciacca’s fish, that you may buy in the afternoon from the fishermen at the harbour.

The Sicily region
Sicily is the biggest island in the Mediterranean Sea, where many populations followed each other, like the Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, Arabs, Normans, who all left traces of their civilization. Goethe himself affirmed that “to have seen Italy without seeing Sicily is not having seen Italy at all. Sicily is the key to everything”.
Sciacca / Contrada San Marco area
Sciacca is a beautiful and elegant city, famous for its thermal treatments that were appreciated even by the Romans. Here you will have the chance to admire many palaces and churches that date back to the Renaissance and Baroque period, as well as numerous Arab-Norman finds. The seaside resorts are visited by many tourists, who love the fine sandy beaches and the blue sea. Moreover, many are the cultural events organised by the town council in July and August.
How to get there
By plane/car: from Palermo or Trapani airport, take the motorway A29. From Catania airport, take the motorway A19. You can rent a car at any Sicilian airport. By sea: ferry-boats (Genoa-Palermo, Civitavecchia-Palermo or Naples-Palermo).

Further details indoors: The house faces a big patio (that is called “Baglio” in Sicilian, from the Arabic word “bahal” that means “fence”). The “baglio” can be used by the guests and the landlord. The flooring is still the original one, with typical dry white stones. In a corner you can admire the ancient well, with an Arab-style cupola. In the “baglio” you will find deck-chairs, tables, swings, flowers and plants. Beyond the “baglio” there is the countryside area, with lemon and orange trees and an olive grove (3 ha). The long, beautiful beach of San Marco is located 800 metres away from the house.

Guestbook for Baglio San Marco
Dear Giulia
“We found the baglio San Marco to be an authentic part of Sicily and a wonderful experience. The surroundings of olive and pomegranate trees and the wonderful courtyard are enchanting. This is combined with an interior which is original and yet has all modern amenities, something which is difficult to achieve. The charming and warm welcome from Guilia and her family made the experience complete” Thank you very much regards Alan P.
Dear Giulia,
on arriving back home in Germany we, must tell you how much we enjoyed our visit to your place at San Marco. It was very comfortable at your apartment and we did´nt miss a thing. At the reasonable price You offered the place to us we expected a much lower service, but it was completely different : very clean very quiet fully equipped top kitchen very smart livingroom car park very safe for the children in all, you should have * * * * You can be assured that we come to you again, probably in spring o8. All the best to You and your Family. Yours faithfully Sabine Phillip Bernd S.
Louise W. "This is a delightful property with very lovely hosts. Guilia and her family made us feel so welcome even leaving out a delicious spread of anti-pasti, cakes and fruit on arrival. The house was clean and nicely laid out and has a beautiful cobbled courtyard with hammock, swing seats and a table and chairs. There is a barbecue to use and the property is set in the owners' olive grove. Athough the owners live in the adjacent house they did not interfere at all in our stay, when we did have contact with them it was most welcome - I was just embarrassed at my extrememly limited Italian. Guilia and her family gave us a tour around Sciacca so that we could find our bearings. We decided not to go to the beaches in Sciacca itself as they are not sandy but found a beautiful beach at Ericlea Minoa which is a half an hour's drive to the east. We were very sad when our holiday was over. Thank you for a lovely holiday!"
To all at the Baglio San Marco, can we just say what a lovely time we had in Sicily, which was made perfect by staying at your beautiful property. We would just like to say thank you for your hospitality, it was a shame we could not speak Italian so we could tell you how we loved every second of our stay. We wish you all the very best in the future. Best wishes- David ,Amanda and Norma.
