The County Galway/County Clare region

Mountshannon is a beautiful and scenic village with its foundation in the 18th century. It is located on the shores of Lough Derg, one of Irelands biggest lakes, in East County Clare Ireland.

The village also has strong links with history and includes some excelent archaeology with-in short reach. Ring forts, Holy wells, Famine Graves and even a wedge tomb (Known locally as 'The Dolmen') can be found close by, but the most impressive historical site has to be Iniscearltra or Holy Island, a monastic settlement of great importance in ancient Ireland. The island is just a short boat trip from the village, and comprises of various churches, graveyards, a holy well and a selection of religious stone carving.

Mountshannon is a great spot for things to do, especially if you like outdoor persuits or taking to the waters and the wilds. There is a broad range of tourist facilities and activites within easy reach of Mountshannon. Leisure activities such as golf and boating are very popular with tourists. Fine food and wine is never far away and traditional Irish music can be heard in the bars most evenings throught the Summer. The natural geography and terrain of the area allows for many leisure and sporting activities.

Scariff

Mountshannon really is a lovely place to visit. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming and the population is made up of many different cultures and nationalities. The village itself is elevated on a hill overlooking a beautiful harbour with an exceptional vista of the lake.
