Home description
Windy Edge was designed and built by a former US ambassador to Japan and it is still known on the island as the Ambassador's House. Set on the top of Cinnamon Hill, it has sensational views over the Caribbean and Atlantic seas and catches the cooling breezes, unlike many coastal properties. It is a large well-designed home with high ceilings and ceiling fans, all the windows have adjustable louvred slats for security and are netted against insects. The whole house has recently been redecorated to a high standard throughout.
There are four main bedrooms plus one smaller double en suite bedroom for extra guests or staff use. 3 bedrooms have en suite facilities 2 bedrooms share a bathroom. A wide veranda surrounds the house with dining area, comfortable seating areas, and table tennis. The house stands in 2.5 acres of mature grounds with many tropical fruit trees for guests to enjoy and a good-sized pool (16'x32') which is serviced 3 times a week. 6-day maid service with cooking if required. Gardens are well-maintained and are home to many varieties of exotic birds and butterflies.

The Tobago region
Tobago is the unspoiled gem of the Caribbean. Set close to Venezuela it is well below the hurricane belt and shares many of the flora and fauna of South America. It contains a very old rain forest reserve which was preserved in the 18th Century to ensure adequate rain supplies for the plantations.
The whole island has a good rainfall which ensures that it remains green and fertile with wonderful tropical plants and flowers. People are friendly and the beaches are easily accessible with safe bathing in warm waters.
Scarborough/Concordia area
The area known as Concordia used to be a large cocoa estate in the old plantation days. Now it is a pleasant residential area in the hills about ten minutes from the nearest beach, Little Bacolet Bay. Ambassador's House lies up a drive just off the road across the island to the northern Caribbean coast, where you will find many beautiful beaches, some with small bars, some by a small fishing village. The main town of Tobago, Scarborough is down the hill about a 10-minute drive away. It has a vibrant market and banks, pharmacies, supermarket and post office. A variety of activities and trips are available; rain forest hikes, birdwatching, deep-sea fishing, scuba-diving, snorkeling, sailing, golf and swimming. Restaurents are located all over the island and very accessible from the house, the nearest are the 'Salsa Kitchen' or 'Ciao', both in Scarborough. Phone numbers are in the phone book at the house.
The dry season extends from December to June and rainy season June to December. However there is much sun at all times and usually some rain at night during the dry season. Temperature variations between approx. 28 - 38 C.
How to get there

Further details outdoors: Beautiful mature grounds extending to 2.5 acres. Many species of tropical flowers and fruit trees which attract a wide diversity of birds. Pool has internal and external lighting for evening swimming. Secluded but not isolated, you are perfectly placed for visiting all parts of the island. Many visitors staying in the tourist areas in the west of the island rarely get to see more than a day's trip round the island, but from The Ambassadors House at Windy Edge it is a short drive across the hills to the Caribbean coast where there are many beautiful unspoilt beaches and little fishing villages to explore. Our friendly local naturalist will pick guests up from the house and take you birdwatching in the rainforest to see the dancing Mannakins or the brightly coloured Trogon. There are many other activites including scuba diving and snorkelling around Little Tobago, golf at one of the 2 high quality courses on the island, or a boat trip up the coast with swimming, snorkelling and barbecue on the beach.
On the Atlantic coast you can drive up to the far end of the island with spectacular views round every corner, certain beaches on this side are not safe for bathing so take care and follow local advice. For shopping there are several good supermarkets nearby and Scarborough has a wonderfully vibrant market for fruit and vegetables and many other things. From the house you will hear the sound of the Conch shell which the fishermen blow to tell people they have brought in a catch for sale.
There is a wide variety of restaurents all within easy reach of the house, and details of these can be found on our website, www.windyedgetobago.co.uk .
