10 of us, grandparents, sons and wives, and grandchildren arrived at prospect house on the 29th december. It was not difficult to find and we loved the quantness of the old town. Tim met us, showed us round and explained about the parking which was no problem. The house is lovely, interesting in layout as a Grade 2 listed building but had all the mod.cons. we needed. The location is brilliant - 3 minutes down stepds and alleys to the harbour. The weather was changeable as one would expect at that time of year and it was lovely to open the door after a long walk and step into a warm and cosy interior. With three floors of bedrooms - oen for each family - there was enough room for everyone to be together but also to go off for a quiet time if needed. We would absolutely recommend the house and have it on our list . Some reviews we read complain about the sea gulls but that puzzled us - are they not part of the seaside experience? |

Stayed in this house for a weekend in August with a large group. Had a great time, the house was just what we wanted for a large group to have a weekend away in Scarborough. A really quirky property, full of character. The house is very old and the bedrooms have great decor, character and lovely furniture. The kitchen is fine, not characterful like the rest of the house but all in working condition and well equipped. It might be handy to bring some extra tea towels. There is a nice large dining room, and it is set out more like B+B with a number of small tables rather than one large one. The living room decor is a little dated but sofas are comfy with a big TV and lots of channels. Not really enough chairs in living room 12 adults to sit at once but extra beanbags provided so no real problems there. We spent most of the time sitting in the back courtyard which is small but pretty with plantpots and enough outdoor seating for 12 to squeeze in. Enough hot water for 12 women to get ready for a night out with no problems. The location is lovely, just a short walk down to the harbour front. There is a small shop nearby - handy if you forget to bring enough toilet roll. There is not parking at the house, but we had no problems unloading and then finding a space near by - parking permits were provided by the house. |

Prospect House is in a superb location, just a street or two away from the beach, shops and restaurants and nestled in amongst other lovely, old properties. Parking is tricky here but Tim made it very easy by providing parking permits. The house was very spacious for eight people and we had a wonderful short break in Scarborough however we all felt the break was over-priced and not as relaxing as it could have been. The property could have done with a deep clean - net curtains and window sills were a bit grimy and the ornaments, in particular, needed a a dust. Junk was also piled into a fire place. We would have liked a proper dining table for all of us to use together, rather than the three tables for four people, a throw-back from the property's time as a B&B I think. We felt the various notes of instructions around the house were a bit excessive and weren't conducive to a relaxing stay. Not providing towels was irritating (but at least we knew in advance) as I had to bring eight bath towels (the other party flew here) which meant they had to double up as hand towels and extra washing for me when we got home. Not providing dishwasher tablets when there is clearly a dishwasher was surprising. Before our stay, communication was sparse and we would have all felt more comfortable if the usual lease agreement had been sent following payment, rather than an emailed receipt and I had to chase up the small amount of information we did receive. This wasn't an issue for us but note the arrival time of 4pm, with departure at 10am versus the usual 2 or 3pm and 11am respectively. All in all, we had a great time but we did feel that the holiday was very much a business transaction for Tim, which is a shame as he seemed very charming when we met. I don't think our gripes would have been an issue if we'd paid half the price but at this price tag, we'd expected a quality experience from start to finish and I'm afraid, we didn't get that. Would I recommend this property to a friend? Yes, with provisos: if you're just looking for a base, the house is great; nice and roomy and in a lovely spot with fantastic views from the bedroom windows. For a self-catering summer holiday however, I would recommend looking around first. |
