The Yorkshire coastal towns of Whitby, Scarborough, Filey and Bridlington have been attracting visitors for hundreds of years who come to enjoy the miles of clean sandy beaches, pretty fishing ports and to walk along magnificent cliff top paths. The picturesque fishing port of Whitby is noted for its narrow streets and cliff top abbey which dominates the skyline and is well known as the place where Bram Stoker was inspired to write his famous novel ‘Dracular'. Further south lies Scarborough which offers two horseshoe bays both with stretches of golden sands and plenty of amusements and activities; which are ideal for the perfect family holiday. All along the coast visitors will be able to find a contrast of family friendly resorts and quieter little fishing ports which, all in all, offers something for everyone. The North York Moors National Park lies just inland from the North Yorkshire coastal resorts of Whitby and Scarborough and has 1,400 miles of trails, footpaths and bridleways, surrounded by heather clad rolling moor land dotted with pretty rural villages and historic country towns. Carving a pathway deep through the North York Moors is the famous North Yorkshire Moors steam railway, which carries passengers from Pickering in the south, north to Grosmont and then along the lovely Esk Valley to Whitby on the coast. This area handy for those who want to experience the many aspects that Yorkshire has to offer with easy access to both the Yorkshire Coast and Yorkshire Dales.
Scarborough has award winning beaches and the promenade has all the pleasures of this elegant seaside town. There are numerous activities in Scarborough for all ages including swimming, golfing, fishing, indoor go-carting, bowling and the Sea Life Centre. Should you wish to travel a little further you can appreciate the beautiful North York Moor National Park areas and Dalby Forest which is a great place for outdoor enthusiasts, with some excellent walkways and cycle tracks and the famous Go Ape assault course. Less than 20 miles away are the pretty coastal resorts of Robin Hoods Bay and Whitby which are both worthy of a day's outing.
