"A very happy Christmas for three generations!"
There were nine of us including two children. The house was big, warm and comfortable. Lots of seating, plenty pots, pans, etc. Got used to the Aga but thankful for the electric oven as well. Not pristine but that suited us - we felt at home!
Mr Dawson responded to our requests prior to our arrival. That was much appreciated.
The area is not new to us, so we enjoyed a return visit - nice walks, sands, and lots for the kids to experience.
Nice that the house did not disappoint, and the party enjoyed Xmas at The Croft.

Good that The Croft met with expectations, and the party might return sometime.

It's good that this party, coming from Scotland, found The Croft to their liking. In particular, their appreciation of the character of an older property is to be commended.
They will be welcome to come again.

We had a great stay with all bedrooms occupied excluding the attic room. The building was great, a little tired but that was obvious before we went, the lounge provided enough space and seating for all of us.kitchen had all the usual appliances with extra fridge/freezer in conservatory .
For a cheap out of season we found it fit the bill very well and would happily return. Did'nt try any of the local pubs village shop had a good range. 10-15 mins drive to Scarborough 20 mins to Whitby great area for cycling into the forests or along the coast railway.
It's good that this party enjoyed their stay at The Croft. As they say, the area is great for getting out and about. I hope they will come again sometime.

This person's views are contrary to most. The Visitors' Book is full of very complementary comments :"Lovely house and gardens. Clean and well-equipped"; "A lovely big house in an ideal location"; "House loved by us all"; "What a gem, wonderful house with everything you need"; "House very comfortable". These are just a few.
This visitor seems to have gone out of his way to find relatively minor things to criticise.
The heating was timed to come on at 4 p.m.. It was relatively mild.
The house is cleaned between lets.Cobwebs are dealt with, but can develop overnight.
The fridge-freezer in the conservatory is a back-up to the one in the kitchen, and is not old.
There is a net curtain in the bathroom. All curtains close.
Bed linen provided is fine.
Electrical wiring is safe. An electrician recently viewed the house.
A new gas safety certificate was issued in July, valid for one year.
Environmental Health visited the house recently. They agree that some of the claims made by this party are "ridiculous".

"Would not recommend this at all. Grubby, poor state of repair, furniture dated, majority of mugs chipped and unpleasant."
Highly disappointing. Poor state of repair. Curtains either missing or damaged. Bedding old, some with stains.bathrooms very grotty. Only one oven shelf in arga impossible to cook for 8 people, 6 hobs… More
The views expressed here are mostly inaccurate.
It would seem that this person was expecting a higher grade of accommodation, and so was disappointed. It is made clear on the website that The Croft is an older property,is of 3-star standard, and people should not expect the standards of a modern, higher-grade property.
There are 2 ovens in the Aga, and so 2 shelves. There is also a combination oven/microwave, and a four-plate electric hob.
There are no bare electric wires.
The main bathroom has an electrically-heated towel-rail. The en-suite has a radiator.
There is a net curtain in the main bathroom. Curtains in the en-suite.
All rooms have curtains.
Bedding provided is of good standard, some of it new.
One or two mugs/plates might have been chipped recently, but there are plenty of others available which are not.
People considering booking are asked to view the photographs of the house, which paint a rather different picture to this review.
