The apartment is located in this modern holiday complex with electronic gates, a swimming pool and a barbecue area on the complex. A restaurant and a bar are only 2 minutes walk away. (There are 3 apartments that I have available in this complex, that are very similar to this one)
Free buses to the town centre and back every 30 minutes from early till late.
A pretty and well-developed seaside resort, Scalea is popular with Italian holidaymakers, still largely undiscovered by foreigners. It has a good infrastructure, shops, transport, and excellent beaches (with good facilities).

Calabria "The toe in Italy's boot"
The Calabria region gives you the feeling of times gone by, a truly beautiful part of Italy, that still retains all of it's charm and is one of the warmest regions in the Meditteranean with many unsploit areas and a wealth of history and culture.
The scenery throughout the region is stunning, Calabria is still largely unknown outside Italy, but is starting to become more popular for holiday homes for non-Italians, because of the climate, the friendly people, the culture and the laid-back lifestyle to name just a few reasons to visit Calabria.
The most southern part of the Italian Peninsula; the area known as "The toe in Italy's boot" between the Tyrrhenian Sea to the west and the Ionian Sea and Gulf of Taranto to the east, to the south-west is the region of Sicily.
Steeped in History, art and culture Calabria is founded on one of the greatest peninsulas of Europe and has been home to many civilizations, most notably the Romans. From the mountainous regions that offer skiing in the winter months to the lower valley regions that can often see temperatures of up to 40ºC in the summer months.
The mountain ranges are the Pollino in the North, the Sila forested plateau in the centre & the Aspromonte and Serre chains in the South.
The Pollino Mountains (National Park) in Northern Calabria are rugged and form a natural barrier separating Calabria from the rest of Italy.
La Sila is a mountainous plateau, approximately 1,200m above sea level & stretches for 2,000 sq.km. along the central part of Calabria with lakes and coniferous forests.
The Aspromonte Mountains are in the southernmost tip of the Italian peninsula bordered with the sea on 3 sides. This unique mountain range is full of wide, man-made terraces that lead down towards the sea.
The Calabria region has been known for it's agricultural for centuries, vineyards & citrus fruit orchards in the lower regions, with chestnut and olives trees in the higher regions there are forests of oak, beech and pine trees, including a rare bosnian pine. One of the warmest regions in the Mediterranean with many unsploit areas and a wealth of history and culture just waiting to be explored.
Scalea area
A coastal holiday town with clear blue sea and rugged mountains along the Tyrrhenian coastline. This region boasts long hot summers and mild winters. A friendly place that shows you the real Italy in Scalea, steeped in tradition and culture yet still has all the amenities that you would expect, including restaurants, bars, festivals and beach parties during the summer months and still remains very warm for most of the year, a great place for a relaxing & enjoyable holiday in the Italian sunshine.

Snorkelling is also available in Praia a Mare.
Horse Riding centre is located 2 miles south of Scalea on the road between Verbicaro and Marcellina. La Bruca Riding Centre. Information is available at the Hotel Talao, (main coastal road, Scalea).
San Nicola Arcella- Caves, picturesque seaside village, 5km Santa Domenica Taloa- hillside town, with spectacular mountain and sea views, a taste of real Italian life in the hills, 8km Orsomarso National park entrance , waterfall and hiking, 15km Maratea – Marina and port in a picturesque town, Known as "The Jewel of Basilicata", 20km Diamante- a beautiful town with a long promenade, 20km Tortora 18km, Aieta 20km - hillside towns with windy cobblestone roads, full of traditional charm Papasidero – hillside town, cave paintings from the bronze age, canoeing, white water rafting, 35km inland Nearest large city is Cosenza, 1hr 25min drive Sicily is a 3 hour drive south with a short 25min ferry crossing.
Skiing - (January and February) approx. 1 and a half hours drive from Scalea are Calabria's main Ski resorts. These are in the Sila Grande which is near Cosenza (travel south on the SS18 from Scalea and follow signs for Cosenza. Then take the road into the mountains. The 3 resorts are: Camigliatello Silano 1400m , Lorica 1350-1920m , Ciricilla 1400-1500m.
How to get there
-Fly to Lamezia, Naples, or Rome. -Cheap flights available from Ryanair or Thomsonfly. -Regular Bus services from Airports to the train stations Lamezia, Napoli Centrale, or Roma Termini. -Train links to Scalea train station from all 3 airports. -Train to Scalea-Santa Domenica Talao run approximately every hour ( www.trenitalia.com). -By Road ,Scalea is 2hrs from Lamezia Terme Airport and 3hr from Naples Airport. -Scalea train station is 3km from the apartment, lifts can be arranged.
