Experience the beautiful shared 10 x 5 metre salt water swimming pool, which is a perfect place to relax... especially after a long day sightseeing!
Bed linen, bathroom towels and all utilities (water, & electricity) are included in the rate stated during the summer months. A small supplement is charged for heating during the winter months.
Sorry, but we do not supply hair-dryers and pool towels can be provided for a small fee to cover laundry costs.
Please note that there are no bars on the upstairs windows, stair-guard or handrail on the stairs. We feel, therefore, that "La Maison" is not suitable for inquisitive young children, although older children and babies are welcome.
Laundry facilities: washing machine, rotary washing line, iron and ironing board, tumble dryer (winter months only) are all available on site.
The Languedoc-Roussillon region
Although "La Maison" is technically situated in the Gard, it is a mere 6km away from the historic City of Avignon in Provence (the once Papal City with its famous St Bénezet bridge).
Often referred to as the "City of Popes" because of the presence of popes and antipopes from 1309 to 1423 during the Catholic schism, it is currently the largest city and capital of the département of Vaucluse. This is one of the few French cities to have preserved its ramparts, its historic centre, the palace of the popes, Rocher des Doms, and the bridge of Avignon. It was classified a World Heritage Site by UNESCO under the criteria I, II and IV.
As a showcase of arts and culture, the fame of its annual theatre festival, known as the Festival d'Avignon, which is staged along the streets of Avignon during July, has far exceeded the French borders.
Avignon is situated on the left bank of the Rhône river, about 580 km (360 miles) south-east of Paris, 229 km (142 miles) south of Lyon and 85 km (52 miles) north-north-west of Marseille. Avignon occupies a large oval-shaped area, not fully populated and covered to a large extent by parks and gardens. Filled with museums and art galleries, it is also a wonderful place to shop!
The historical town centre bounded by its ramparts, Avignon has a Mediterranean climate characterised by relatively dry summers and cool, damp winters. The city is often subject to windy weather; the strongest wind is the mistral. The popular proverb is, however, somewhat exaggerated, Avenie ventosa, sine vento venenosa, cum vento fastidiosa (windy Avignon, pest-ridden when there is no wind, wind-pestered when there is). The area is rich in history, tradition and natural beauty and is the perfect place for a break at any time of the year with the most amount of sunshine hours recorded in France.
The charming village of Les Angles, sits on a plateau overlooking the Rhône and Avignon. It has many bars and restaurants to sample. Close by is the village of Villeneuve-lès-Avignon which was the residence of cardinals during the 14th century. Les cardinal's palaces are luxurious residences built in the 14th century by the popes, the cardinals, and the prelates of the papal court. The Abbey of St. André is situated within the walls of the St. André Fort constructed in the early 11th century. The Carthusian monastery of the Val de Bénédiction is an enormous church surrounded by three cloisters; it is one of the largest Carthusian houses in Europe. There is a wonderful Provençal market selling local produce and wine here on Saturday and Thursday mornings, which is a must see.
Wine lovers will enjoy visiting the numerous caves and private cellars in this area, known as “The Wine Route of the Côtes du Rhône” (“La Route des Vins”): the villages of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Vacqueyras, Gigondas, Beaumes de Venise, and Taval to mention just a few, are all only a short drive away.
For golfers, there are 4 courses within easy driving distance: The Grand Avignon in Vedène; Golf de Chateaublanc in Morière les Avignon; Golf du Moulin in Orange; and Provence Country Club in l'Isle sur la Sorgue.
Why not visit the wonderful festivals during the summer months: Festival d’Avignon, the Roman Amphitheatre in Orange, and the International Piano Festival at la Roque d'Anthéron.
Experience the ambience of Provence, not to mention its produce, at the famous markets at Uzès, Aix-en-Provence, and L'Isle sur la Sorgue with its plethora of antique shops (the "antique capital" of Provence)!

The house is lovely and complete, and decorated with much attention for details. The owners made every effort to let us have relaxed holiday, from initial booking enquiry to final departure. The location of the house near Avignon, waterfalls, small villages and canoeing activities is excellent. Lot's to see and do. But an occasional lazy day at the house and pool is also a recommended.
The property (garden, pool) is shared with 3 cottages (for max 2 persons each).
