The Swiss Alps / Graubunden/Alps region

Graubunden is one of Switzerlands largest and most diverse cantons. Three language groups are spoken here, Swiss German, Italian and Romance. It is home to some major internationally known ski resorts, Davos, Klosters, Lenzerheide and St Moritz as well as dozens of genuine Swiss resorts. The canton feels a bit remote and distinct from the rest of Switzerland. High Alpine peaks, dramatic valleys and an abundance of Lakes make this perfect for getting away from it all. Loads of activities , walking, climbing, skiing, rafting and even polo on ice and the cresta run!
For culture Chur is Switzerlands oldest town and has a beautiful preserved medieval centre.
The climate is very healthy and for the most part above any cloud or fog.

Savognin / Tinizong area

Tinizong is a tradional village with old houses and a beautiful 16th century church. The scenery all around is breathtaking, particularly as the road climbs to St Moritz. In the village are a hotel/restaurant and some sports facilities and cross country ski trails
The Savognin ski area is only 2kms away and goes from 1200 to 2700m with runs suitable for all abilities.
It has 80kms of slopes, check out www.savognin.ch or www.savogninbergbahnen.ch
In Summer Savognin has a lake for Swimming. The town has many hotels and restaurants at reasonable prices. The Cube hotel is a trendy spot with night club, funky bars and chill out lounges.
A renowned Golf course is within 30 minutes as is the spa at Alveneu Bad

How to get there

Savognin is situated in the canton of Graubunden in the South East of Switzerland. It is in a valley running North-South . It is close to the major ski resorts of Lenzerheide and St Moritz.
It is equally distant from Zurich and the German airport of Friedrichshafen.(120km). This airport is served by Ryanair with some very cheap flights. Driving time is 1h45'. It is motorway to within 20 km, head towards Chur the St Moritz.. In Summer using Milan or Bergamo airport is an alternative.
Access by Car is easier than might be expected, It is only 561 miles from Calais nearer than many French resorts. Two options via French Motorway, Calais, Rheims to Strasbourg, then onto German motorway into Switzerland at Basle , then Zurich, Chur etc.. Shorter but with a non motorway bit is south to Rheims then Troyes, Langres, cutting across country via Vesoul then onto Basle.
A cheaper but slightly longer alternative is via Belgian motorways (no fees) , stopping in Luxembourg for very cheap fuel.
Driving time from Calais is put at 9h50' but an overnight is really needed.
