The Poitou-Charentes region
Poitou-Charentes boasts the second most hours of sunshine per year only beaten by the Cote d'Azur and is made up of the Deux-Sevres, Vienne, Charentes and Charentes Maritime departments.
The region has a wealth of beautiful and interesing places to visit that are steeped in history, some of which are churches and chateaux. you will find an 11th century church in the village of Vaussais which is currently being renovated after falling into a state of disrepair, its almost 1000 years old.
There are many rivers and waterways in Poitou-Charentes including the picturesque Venise-Verte at Marais Poitevin near La Rochelle.
The vibrant fishing port of la Rochelle is around 1.5 hrs drive, there is an abundance of seafood restaurants, shops and an Aquarium, travel a little further onto the Ile Re for a fantastic day out.
The second largest French theme park Futuroscope is at Poitiers which is 40 mins away or there is Vallee De Singes which is around 1hr. There are also many waterparks within 0.5 to 1 hr away as well as rivers, outdoor pools and man made beaches.
Or simply pack a picnic and visit one of the many beautiful towns nearby, one of our favourite places to visit is Verteuil sur Charente.
Places to visit are Poitiers, Angouleme, Jarnac, Cognac, Limoges, Niort, Melle, Chatellerault, Bordeaux, Royan, La Rochelle
, Ile De Re, Bergerac,

"A wonderful place to relax"
We have just returned from the most relaxing holiday and will definitely return. The house is set in a lovely quiet little village about 5 mins from the main town which has a large supermarket with absolutely everything that you need, we cycled there every day to buy croissants and bread. It was so peaceful and relaxing, the garden is enclosed and very private which would be very safe for young families. The whole house is spotless and very well equipped, the rooms are all tastefully decorated with attention to detail, most importantly, the beds were good quality and comfortable. We were able to sit in the garden as we were lucky that the weather had just turned and was very warm and sunny, we spent hours just looking at all the different species of birds visiting the garden . We are planning to return next year with our family. So pleased that we have found Les Jonquilles.
