This region is the second sunniest area in France making it attractive all year round.
Here are some of the attractions we recommend you see.
Valley of the Monkeys about 30 minutes away, here you can discover over 350 primates, 30 species, where you can come in contact with them in a very natural setting. There is also a farm nursery with sheep, goats, pigs, chickens and rabbits you can pet.
Futuroscope the second largest theme park in France.Approximately 45 minutes drive,an exciting day for the whole family.
Poitiers: The regions capital. Here you will find lots of architectural and historical interest, with its cathedral, museums and churches also good for shopping.
Marais Poitevin - "Green Venice" - approx. 40 minutes drive, hire a boat and explore the waterways.
Golf course at Mazieres en Gatine - approx. 1 hours drive.
Cognac - famous for its distilleries and the famous spirit as well as the local speciality Pineau.
Many local towns & villages have markets and car boot sales throughout the Summer.
The local market town of Sauze Vaussais is only a 10 minute drive away, fresh local produce in abundance on Thursdays & Saturdays. There you will find two supermarkets (one of which is a large Super U ) There is also a variety of boulangeries, tabacs and other small shops including a beauticians. There are several restaurants and cafes, including mobile fish n chips two nights per week. We also have a large lake just outside the village with fishing facilities, crazy golf, picnic area, slides and climbing frames for children.

"Relaxing and comfortable stay, a real get away from it all!"
Our party of 9 occupied both of the cottages available at this beautiful holiday let. Both cottages offer excellent accommodation, they were decorated and maintained to a very high standard with all modern facilities that you would expect. Agnes and Cyril were most welcoming, Agnes even provided us with some home made pavlova and scones. We were made to feel very relaxed and whilst Agnes and Cyril's own cottage is located next door we never felt that we were intruding and indeed they were never intrusive but very much on hand if we needed anything.
There are plenty of grounds for the children (aged 9, 7 and 5) to play in including a lovely, very clean swimming pool and a games room including pool table, tennis table and darts board. Tamala (Cyril and Agnes's grand-daughter aged 9) was a welcome visitor full of lots of local knowledge and the children made great friends of her.
For the adults this was a perfect get away from it all holiday. There were cycle rides for the men to get the daily bread. Local supermarket just 10 min drive away. Within easy reach of lovely towns such as Chef Butonne (? spelling) and Melle where there are some lovely markets. La Rochelle took about one hour 20 mins to drive to. Worth a visit to the silver mines just outside Melle but generally we could have happily stayed for the two whole weeks at the cottages without needing to venture out for much more than bread, wine and cheese - oh and not to forget that Agnes grows her own vegetables which she is more than happy to let you help your self.
Really there have been no negatives to these beautiful cottages, location and welcoming owners. Many thanks Cyril, Agnes and Tamala for our wonderful holiday.
