Pretty new "home from home" set in beautiful countryside on the French Basque/Bearn border offering a secluded location but with lots of amenities either within walking distance or a couple of minutes' drive.
As drive across the stone bridge across "Le Saison" - the traditional boundary between the French Basque country and the Bearn - welcomes guests to this tranquil hideaway with all the modern conveniences to make your stay a comfortable and relaxing one.
This light and airy property has a sunny terrace opening on to a large secure garden with views across wooded hills and the peaks of the Pyrenees. The house has an open-plan lounge/diner, with comfortable seating, TV, DVD free Wi-Fi and Ipod dock. For a good night's sleep the beds have memory foam topped mattresses and for winter guests there is underfloor heating. Jolie Maison has a, newly fitted kitchen with oven, induction hob, fridge, freezer and wine coolers. There is also an italian shower and bathroom plus separate toilet and plenty of hot water. For winter bookings the house has underfloor heating throughout. There is a choice of terraces all with tables and chairs for al fresco dining or a local "Eki" beer or glass of wine and shady spots to watch the local bird life as well as the occasional deer and a night the starry skies are breathtaking.
This area is gaining in popularity due to programmes including Rick Stein's Spain (we are just an 90 minutes from San Sebastian; "Pilgrimage" and Michael Portillo's Great Railway Journeys. Our local cheese - Istara's Petit Gascogne Iraty Brebis has been voted worldwide cheese of the year and for wine lovers you have the unique ability to choose between some of the best French, Gascogne wines as well as some stunning Spanish Riojas and which sit comfortably together on many local restaurant menus as well as being available in local supermarkets. Situated on the border between the Basque and Bearn and within sight of the Pyrenees this is an ideal location to discover the spectacular Atlantic coast and beaches including Biarritz, Hendaye, St Jean de Luz and Urrugne as well as being just 50 minutes from the ski resort of St Pierre and an hour from Lourdes and 40 minutes from the Spanish border. For walkers the "St Jacques" route passes nearby and the house is situated between ten and fifteen minutes from the basque town St Palais; the medieval towns of Navarrenx and Sauveterre de Bearn as well as the capital of Soule, Mauleon. Fishing is available just three minutes' walk away and other local activities include swimming, kayaking and canoeing, horse riding and regular open air shows and concerts at the Chateau du Laas and throughout the summer every weekend there are free shows, gigs and fetes for everyone to enjoy.

Pyrenees Atlantique has something for everyone. Rugged, dramatic coastline with a mix of surf and gentle bays; stunning mountains with ski slopes and tourist trains to a real mix of cultures reflected in the local architecture and gastronomy.
There is so much to do here - explore Biarritz and the Basque Coast - St Jean de Luz, Urrugne and Hendaye. See the dramatic caves at Betharren or take one of the fabulous tourist trains at La Rhune or Artouste. Ski at St Pierre or Iraty. Visit the cathedral town of Bayonne and the spa towns of Salies de Bearn or Cambo les Bains.
Activities range from golf, canoeing and white water rafting, surfing, horse riding, cycling and walking. More leisurely pursuits include visiting regular markets, fabulous restaurants and chateaux - Laas and Pau - and the world heritage site at St Blaise.
Sauveterre de Bearn
Your stay could include, visit to the medieval town of Sauveterre de Bearn with its dramatic medieval church overlooking the Gave d'Oleron and home to numerous fetes throughout the summer; the medieval bastide town of Navarrenx with a market which has been held weekly since the 13th century and array of bars and restaurants as well as being on the St Jacques de Compostella pilgrimage route.
There are lovely restaurants and bars at Navarrenx, Sauveterre, Mauleon and St Palais with both small and large supermarkets within 10 minutes drive. There is also a well stocked village shop open every day within a 2 minute drive or cycle - or a leisurely 10 minute walk.
