This 18th century farmhouse has been lovingly restored, keeping all the original features such as antique fireplaces and stairs.
The small sitting room downstairs opens onto a wisteria covered terrace for dining al fresco. This leads to the very private garden and swimming pool and at the end of it there is a very dramatic mountain river grade one listed for salmon and trout fishing.

The Aquitaine / Dordogne / Pyrenees Atlantiques region
The house is situated in the Bearn region, in the foot hills of the Pyrenees. The country side is green and rolling with the mountains as a back drop . Climate is very mild all the year around, sunny and hot in the summer.
The nearest town Sauveterre is medieval with a 12th c church. The very attractive ancient town of Salies de Bearn is 10km away. Navarrenx is a 17th century garrison. The nearest skiing resort is under an hour. Pau and its chateau is an hour away so is Lourdes and its grotto.
Biarritz and the sandy beaches of the Landes are under an hour. Not to forget that we are on the door steps of spain with Pamplona, San Sebastian and of course the Guggenheimmuseum in Bilbao, taking the lovely fishing village of St Jean de Luz on the way.
Sauveterre de Bearn area
Swimming in the summer.Fishing, and skiing in the winter (75 km). Tennis courts available, white water rafting, riding and the Atlantic under an hour away. There is walking and bycicling in the mountains, golf a few minutes away. During the summer there is a wealth of festivals available. Pau and Biarritz are both very attractive and entertaining towns. World surfing championships in August. We are on the edge of the Pays Basque and its folklore. Pamplona is one and a half hours away and Bilbao and the Guggenheim museum three hours.
How to get there
Quilhaut is. just 55 km away from both Biarritz and Pau airport. Cheap flights available with Ryan air. Easy jet flights from Gatwick to Biarritz in the summer. British Airways flights to Bordeaux and train journey to Dax or Orthez to follow. Car hire available at all three airports

Further details indoors: There is a large drawing room with an antique fire place, sofa and comfortable armchairs. There is a wood burning stove in the antique fireplace. The dining table seats 10 very comfortably. Through doubles doors one enters a smaller sitting room with a single bed. It leeds to a terrace covered with a wisteria clad pergola. Fully equipped kitchen and a shower/utility room with downstairs loo.
Master bedroom with very large double bed and twin bedroom a the front, antique wardrobes and chests of drawers.A further double bedroom at the back. Bathroom with loo, large landing with bookcase.
Further details outdoors: The house is set in a very pretty garden with hedges all around giving maximum privacy and looking down onto the Gave des Saisons( a mountain river). Swimming pool set in the orchard. There is a large meadow, 1000 sq meters, ideal for playing ball.
