The Coachman's Lodge
About the home
The former servant housing has been lovingly restored to a standard somewhat more luxurious than that of it's earlier inhabitants would have been used to. The accommodation resides within the walled garden of the Chateau and makes a pleasant and secure environment for children to play. The chateau is located on the periphery of the village and forest, nestling amongst vineyards, apple orchards and sunflower fields giving access to wonderful scenic walks around this typically French Provincial village.
The Lodge and Cottage are conveniently located within the grounds but are self enclosed for privacy. From here you will be able to walk to the supermarket, boulangerie (lovely hot fresh bread daily plus local delicious pastries) and other usual conveniences. You are welcome to make use of our private picnic area located 1 km away in an undisturbed forest area. Parking is within the grounds. There is a separate play and camping area with badminton and racket ball and there are skittles and a paddling pool for smaller children. The Lodge sleeps up to 14, cots and high chairs are available.

Further details indoors:
THE KITCHEN, SALON AND DINING ROOM
The lodge has been tastefully furnished with local antiques and completed with modern conveniences. We have taken care to conserve the many natural features within the Lodge, particularly the exposed masonry and oak beams. The interior has a rustic country theme which we think is in keeping with it's character. The Lodge will particularly suit families holidaying together, whilst being large enough to retain individual privacy. The entrance to the lodge is via the kitchen, formerly used to provide the residents with their all important daily bread. We have retained the original oak beams and an antique free standing pine dresser and cupboards to give the feeling of a traditional French country kitchen. A dishwasher and washing machine have been provided as well as all the other usual facilities. The salon which has TV and dvd facilities opens directly onto the garden via french windows. The arched entrance through which the carriages would enter the building now holds many large beauifully crafted stained glass windows. The room is arranged so that all the residents have space to eat together if desired and also there are large sofas to relax after a hard days sight seeing.
BEDROOMS 1 TO 6
There are 6 comfortable bedrooms, 2 king size, 2 double, 1 with 3 single beds plus cot and 1 with bunk beds suitable for children. Each room has its own clothes hanging facility or chest of drawers. Bedrooms 1 and 2 are on the first floor, bedrooms 3 to 6 are on the second floor. The rooms are luxuriously furnished with many antiques some of which may be purchased if you so desire, all are large with high ceilings giving a light spacious feel to the Lodge. Bedroom 6 has an en-suite bathroom.
BATHROOM, SHOWER ROOM AND SEPARATE TOILET
On the second floor there is a large family bathroom with a large corner bath ideal to relax in at the end of the day. On the first floor is a shower room which has been built on the spot where once the bread oven resided. There is also a separate toilet.

THE POOL
As a luxury facility offered to gite guests we have a beautiful 12 meter by 6 meter heated pool plus a 4 meter sunbathing patio around the perimeter to the rear of the Chateau, surrounded by a garden to ensure shelter and privacy with table tennis facility, heated to a comfortable 26 degrees throughout the summer. A solar shower is located on the patio for use before and after bathing. Access to the shallow end is via Roman steps. The pool has an all round one meter deep shelf making the entire pool safe for all the family. The pool also has a security perimeter fence with a large lockable gate, keys ensure security and safety of all guests. The pool is open all day from 10.30am to 7pm (adult swimming 6-7pm), this allows for essential cleaning and maintenance to be carried out to retain the pool to a high standard.
The Loire Valley / Maine-et-Loire region

The region has become one of the most popular in France because of the many Chateau and vineyards. There are superb restaurants all within easy driving distances. The region is between 80 and 150 kms inland ensuring warm dry weather in the summer.
You will love the warm, sunny climate, which at this point becomes much more continental. The apple orchards come alive in the spring, which normally arrives a good month earlier than in the UK. The summer is generally warm and dry and ablaze with sunflower fields.
The Saumur / Vernoil area
The area has many local attractions and is an ideal family location. Only 15 minutes drive from the Chateau is the historic town of Saumur famous for it's fairy tale Chateau, Cadre Noire and The National Riding Academy. The town is built primarily of the local tuffeau stone which gleams bright white in the strong summer sun. The Chateau of Saumur boasts panoramic views along the Loire valley.
The town is an interesting mixture of modern shops, paved walkways, markets and an old town where the streets are surprisingly steep upto the Chateau that sits above the town. It is renown for its sparkling white wines and is the largest producer of mushrooms in France, which are grown in the limestone caves which surround the town. It is also the home of the elite French Cavalry Regiment the Cadre Noire and the L'ecole Nationale the national school of equitation.
The region has become one of the most popular in France. The area also has some superb restaurants all within easy driving distance. There are many activities to suit all tastes, horse riding, cycling, swimming, walking and watersports. The immediate area offers lovely villages, market towns and superb countryside suitable for families with children of all ages. Futuroscope is only an hour and a half away with many theme parks, zoos and natural attractions all within one hours drive.
