Situated in a peaceful hamlet close to Doue-la-Fontaine and Montreuil-Bellay, and 20km from Saumur, this gite provides a perfect base for exploring the glorious Loire region. The gite "Le Grenier" (the old grainstore) is adjacent to the main farmhouse and comfortably sleeps 2 to 5 persons making it ideal for families, couples or small groups looking for a relaxing holiday.
This spacious gite is renovated to an extremely high standard whilst retaining period features. The fully fitted kitchen is well equipped and include a dishwasher, butler sink, halogen hob etc. The downstairs Shower Room incorporates a washing machine.
The huge lounge is double aspect and has a vaulted ceiling and log burner. It is equipped with a Flat Screen TV, DVD and Video etc. Free WiFi internet access also included. The Master Bedroom is also very spacious and has a vaulted ceiling, exposed original beams and has windows facing to the front and rear of the property. The property is set in a private walled garden with areas at the front and back for exclusive use by guests, including a children's play area. Two sets of outdoor furntiure allow a variety of places to relax or enjoy meals. New Gas BBQ for 2012.. Cycles are provided at no extra cost. The British owners live on-site.

Conditions
The gite is maticulously cleaned by the owners between every rental, but guests are expected to leave the gite in a clean and tidy state upon departure

The Loire Valley / Maine-et-Loire region
All the world-famous chateaux of the Loire and Anjou are within easy reach and the historic towns of Saumur and Angers are only 20 mins and 45 mins drive respectively.
Other activities include local walking and cycle tours, trips to amusement parks, swimming at one of the nearby "Plan d'Eau" (swimming lakes) or day trips to towns and beaches on the Atlantic coast. Refer to our region page on gite-in-loire.co.uk for more ideas.
The area is renowned for its fine Anjou and Saumur wines. Wine tastings are a must for all visitors!
The sunny climate in the Western Loire is comparable to that of Poitou-Charentes with some of the highest average number of sunshine hours recorded annually.

Doue la Fontaine: Doue has a fantastic zoo set on two levels. One of the area's top tourist attractions. Doue is also famous for its rose gardens and troglodyte sites.
Saumur: Chateau town and home of the Cadre Noir. Renowned for its wines (Saumur Brut, Champigny).
Angers: regional capital with famous chateau
Puy de Fou: Medieval theme park

A lovely gite, comfortable and spacious.The location was perfect for visiting many of the sight seeing spots in the Loire valley. Thanks to Andrew and Jackie for a very warm welcome and for arranging the wine tasting session for us at a local vineyard. A perfect holiday! |

We organised our trip to Le Grenier at the last moment and have never tried the 'gite experience' before with our young family - we were definitely pleasantly surprised. Andrew and Jackie were very welcoming and made us feel very much at home. The gite was very spacious and immaculately clean. Our daughter particularly enjoyed the outside space with the sandpit and ofcourse the donkeys. The gite was also very well located allowing us to explore the local area. The zoo is an absolute must and we also enjoyed visiting chateaus and local markets. We will certainly be returning! |

Le Grenier has been lovingly renovated to a very high standard and yet retains its original rustic charm. Every element has been planned and executed with love and style. Nothing is too much trouble for the owners Andrew and Jackie and from the moment you arrive you are made to feel incredibly welcome. They are both warm, friendly and attentive and rightly proud of their home and gite. If you are looking for a unique, friendly, warm and wonderful trip away from home then look no further than 'Le Grenier' - you will not be disappointed.

Best Gite we have ever stayed in!!
Le Grenier was so clean and well equipped. We thought the local Zoo at Doue was superb and The Brassere de Ville provided excellent cheap food. Norman and the Donkeys were adored and well fed, but most of all our thanks to Jackie and Andrew for looking after us and tending to our every need. The Meal on Arrival was delicious and we loved having the bikes to get the pasteries in the mornings. We will be back!!

We have had a fantastic week here in the Loire and a wonderful week in Le Grenier. It has been so peaceful here and the kids have enjoyed the garden and making friends with the donkeys!
Andrew and Jackie have been very hospitable and the gite has everything you could wish for. We have enjoyed visiting Montsoreau, Angers, Tours, Saumur and Montreuil-Bellay.
Thankyou for making us so welcome from the minute we arrived and thanks especially to Andrew for his joke telling. We will definately recommend the gite and would love to return at a later date. Andrew and Jackie - thanks a million!!

Thankyou for a wonderful welcome to your gite. We have had a fantastic week relaxing here. The gite surpassed our expectations; beautifully presented, well equipped for us and the little one! The Meal On Arrival was delicious and much needed.
We loved the tranquility of the area , warm evenings and feeding the donkeys. The highlights of the week were the Zoo (one of the best visited ever) and Geralds Wine Tasting Tour.
We will certainly recommend this gite to friends and family. Best of luck with the future of Le Grenier.

Third Stay and Good as Ever

This has been our third stay here at Le Grenier and we have had as good a time as ever. Many thanks indeed to Andrew and Jackie for being such lovely 'new' hosts and we hope to see you again before too long. Furthermore, another big thank you from my parents Judy and David for their two nights here. We've all had a wonderful time.

Le Grenier was our home from home for two weeks in June. As soon as we drove through the gates we were thrilled. The farmhouse and gite have been most sympathetically and carefully restored to an exceptional standard; the grounds beautifully kept. On arrival we were warmly welcomed by Jackie and Andrew. We were happily expectant before we even set foot inside and felt intuitively that we had made the right choice. The interior is light and spacious with a large, functional and yet homely kitchen, extremely well equipped . There is an adjoining utility/shower room . A couple of steps lead around a corner to the second bedroom (twin) . Upstairs the double bedroom is large, light and airy. Across the landing the living room is very comfortable with its beautiful fireplace and double aspect. All in all we were delighted. We loved returning to Le Grenier each day after our explorations. We felt the outside space was exclusively ours and enjoyed our evening aperitifs and barbecues. Jackie and Andrew kept a low profile whilst at the same time being highly approachable for information. We enjoyed afternoon tea with them before we left. It was a great holiday and we have very fond memories of Le Grenier.
