The Loire Valley region

All the world-famous chateaux of the Loire and Anjou are within easy reach and the historic towns of Saumur and Angers are only 20 mins and 45 mins drive respectively.

Other activities include local walking and cycle tours, trips to amusement parks, swimming at one of the nearby "Plan d'Eau" (swimming lakes) or day trips to towns and beaches on the Atlantic coast. Refer to the Region Page on our website www.gite-in-loire.co.uk for more ideas.

The area is renowned for its fine Anjou and Saumur wines. Wine tastings are a must for all visitors!

The sunny climate in the Western Loire is comparable to that of Poitou-Charentes with some of the highest average number of sunshine hours recorded annually.

Saumur

Montreuil Bellay: Ville Fleurie with an imposing medieval chateau

Doue la Fontaine: Doue has a fantastic Zoo set on two levels. One of the area's top tourist attractions. Doue is also famous for its Rose Gardens and Troglodyte Sites.

Saumur: Chateau town and home of the Cadre Noir which has events throughout the year.

Just 5 minutes away in Le Puy Notre Dame, we have the annual Retro Grand Prix for pre 1940's cars, three wheelers and motorcycles; a fantastic free event normally the last weekend in July.

Renowned for its wines (Saumur Brut, Champigny).

Angers: regional capital with famous chateau

Puy de Fou: Medieval theme park

Lots of wine tasting .... :-)

"Another fantastic stay at Le Grenier!"

This was our third visit to Le Grenier in 3 years and yet again we were not disappointed. The gite is absolutely fantastic and certainly has the 'wow factor'. Since our last visit new lamps have been added to the lounge, an iPod docking station in the kitchen, new sun loungers for the gorgeous, private garden, a new gas barbecue and a new double quilt for the main bedroom. This constant attention to detail and focus on providing a real 'home away from home' is what makes Le Grenier so special. If you book a stay here you will not be disappointed by the standard on offer. This has to be one of the best gites on offer in the Loire valley. We're already looking forward to visiting again next year!

"Pure bliss - the place to excape to"

Having stayed in many holiday cottages, this is definitely the one to benchmark all the others! Le Grenier is very well presented, is extremely well equipped and maintained to the highest standards

The secret to this excellence is clearly the two donkeys that are ever-present and well supervised by Norman the cat who appears just like the proverbial Genie. The is also a guy called Andrew who was very welcoming and will always appear if you pop a cork!

It was our first visit to the Loire region and there is so much to see we shall definitely be returning to continue our explorations. The only problem is that the gite is so relaxing its almost too much trouble to venture out, its perfect to relax in and well placed to explore a very interesting region, with lots of excellent restaurants and endless vineyards to sample.

We would highly recommend a stay here.

"Fantastic gite in beautiful surroundings"

Le Grenier is a large gite in a very rural location surrounded by beautiful countryside, birds and wildlife. It's well equipped with plenty of space for the kids, with the added attraction of Samson and Zeus, plus of course the ever present Norman! There are a selection of bikes for the use of the guests, as well as space to play badminton, basketball, etc.
The owner, Andrew (Jackie was away), was incredibly accommodating and a wonderful host and it was nice to share a drink two with him and chat about life in France.
We would definitely recommend Le Grenier and look forward to returning next year!
