La Grande Maison is situated in three acres of wooded grounds that lead down to the river dive. Perfectly situated for exploring the Loire Valley. We have the Bike Barn for storage of cycles or if you don't want to bring your own we can have a bike delivered to our door for you. The Bike Barn has workshop facilities for bike maintenance.
Our river is ideal for some fishing, or painting or for a bar b q. We have a games room with pool and table tennis.
We can organise a wine tour of the vineyards of the Loire or nearby is a French cookery school running 2 and 4 day courses.

The three bedroom B & B suite is situated in the main house on the first floor. The master bedroom is a grand 5 meters by 5 meters with a high ceiling and views over the courtyard and grounds. The sumptuous decor features a lovely selection of French antiques including the bed. Off the main bedroom is a hallway with two single rooms and a shower room. Extra beds and/ or a cot can be provided making this an ideal space for a couple, a Family or a group of friends. Accommodation includes a continental breakfast.
The Loire Valley region
The Loire valley was first made famous by the kings and nobility of France. Their presence can be seen in the magnificent Chateeax Abbeys and Churches. This World Heritage site has more than three hundred châteaux including Châteaux d'Amboise, Château de Chambord, Château d’Saumur, Château de Villandry and the breathtaking Chateau Chenonceau. Even Leonardo Da Vinci was drawn to their splendor. He lived at Chateau Clos Luce, now a museum to his genius.
This area is also known as the Garden of France after the many beautiful Orchards and Vineyards. You can enjoy a wine tour of this great region, either on a personal tour with one of our associated guides or independently using a pdf of all the vineyards and Caves of the Loire valley available, from our website.
La Grande Maison is situated in the wine appellations of Anjou and Thoursais and are within easy reach of the Saumur, Chinon, Saint-Nicholas de Bourgueil, Touraine, or the famous sparkeling Saumr Brut or Loire Crement.
If you are here in the Autumn why not take part in the Vendange. The Grape harvest is the busiest time of year for the Wine producers and they are always looking for a spare pair of hands.

For family days out there are lots of theme parks in the area.
Parc du Futuroscope is a theme park like no other. Its based upon multimedia cinematographic futuroscope and audio-visual techniques. It has several 3D cinemas and a few 4D cinemas along with other attractions and shows, some of which are the only examples in the world.

Bioparc Zoo is set in ancient quarries, former lime kilns and cathedral-like caves, Bioparc Zoo is one of the finest in Europe. The zoo is part of the European Endangered species Programme. Animals are not captured or bought in. Instead, animals are exchanged between zoos. The Loire Valley and Poitou-Charente benefits from 2,400 hours of sunshine a year. On average this is 750 hours more than the south of the UK. This makes it the second hottest and sunniest place in the country. Our region, located in the west of France is renowned for having one of the most pleasant climates, along with the French Riviera. Winters are really mild and thanks to the oceanic climate, summers are hot but not muggy!
La Grande Maison is situated between the market towns of Loudun and Thouars and a short drive from Saumur or Chinon.
Saumur is situated across the Loire. Half the town is on the south bank while the remainder is on an island. The town is very beautiful in particular the Chateau on the top of the hill looks out over the Loire river and is a great place to enjoy stunning views. Saumur is the home of the world famous Cadre Noir and the National Equestrian school.
A short way upstream are the troglodyte caves of the Loire Valley. Some are used as cellars and for wine production including Gratien & Meyer producers of the very refined sparkling wine of the region. You can enjoy a very interesting tour of there underground caves and then after enjoy a tasting. Ask for your free ticket when you stay at La Grande Maison. Others are where the Champigny mushrooms are grown and some are even churches, restaurants and houses. You can visit many off them. There are also boat trips on the Loire from here.
Carrying on up stream opposite Chateau Montsoreau the river is joined by the River Vienne a few miles up the Vienne you will find the historical town of Chinon. On the hill is the fortified chateau a resident of two Counts of Anjou who were also Kings of England, Hernry II and Richard the Lion Heart. There are many fine restaurants and bars in the medieval streets at the center of the town.
