About the home

Set within a relaxed rural environment yet only 3-4 minutes drive ,or a pleasant 20 minute walk, to the nearest town which has 3 bars one with a restaurant. There is also a boulangerie, computer shop, hairdressers, florist and a GP surgery within the village.

Recently refurbished to a high standard this self-contained dwelling adjoins the owners own farm house and can comfortably sleep 4-6 people. La Cour de Pierres is laid out over 2 floors of a tower which gives a dual aspect over the courtyard on one side and rolling fields and woodland on the other.

On the ground floor there is an open plan kitchen and lounge diner. The shower room is also on the ground floor. The lounge has English satellite TV, DVD and access to wireless internet.The kitchen has a range of units and ample work-surfaces with fridge with freezer compartment, gas cooker and microwave.

On the first floor there are 2 spacious bedrooms each with a lounge area. Bedroom 1 is a family room and has a french style double bed, a single bed plus a sofa bed and can accommodate up to 5 people. Bedroom 2 has a double bed, built in wardrobes plus a sofa for relaxing and winding down.

Pierres has a pleasant private garden area with garden furniture, and a barbecue for our guests. The farmhouse is set in 1.8 hectares of farmland adjacent to apple orchards, ideal for those who enjoy walking and cycling with forests and open countryside close by.

Chickens provide fresh eggs for purchase if visitors wish. The dogs provide a friendly welcome and the horses add to the view. Throughout spring and summer many birds can be located in and around the property and during the night the resident owl adds it's voice to the gentle nocturnal sounds of the countryside.

There is open air swimming, 10 minutes by car at the nearby lake in Rille as well as a mini beach. There are indoor pools to be found in Saumur.

The property is ideally situated for those wishing to enjoy the 'degustation de vin', sample the local wines from the nearby vineyards of Bourgueil and Saumur along the wine trail or visit the chateaux of Saumur, Amboise, Villandry and many more.

For those wanting a little more action there are many organised attractions nearby including canoeing down the Loire, horse riding, Terra Botanica, Zoos and the Troglodyte caves.

La Cour de Pierres offers the warm, friendly atmosphere of informal farmhouse living where proprietors, Tony and Gillian Stone are available to give helpful advice on local amenities and attractions.

Well behaved pets are welcome with prior agreement of the owners.

Facilities

The gite is light and airy and provides good accommodation at a reasonable cost.

All linen and towels are provided for the gite and are of good quality. For guests staying more than 1 week clean linen and towels provided at mid stay.

A cot available for use in the gite with a mattress and mattress protector however linen for the cot is not provided.

A stair gate is available on request.

As well as the seating area in the lounge there is also seating in both bedrooms, although if guests chose to make use of the sofa bed in bedroom 1 then this takes out the seating in that room

There is no washing machine in the gite but arrangements can be made with the gite owner to wash laundry for a small fee to be paid locally.

Further details outdoors:
A good size garden area with BBQ and seating plus parasol is set aside for guests.

Guests are also invited to meet the animals if they so wish. Come say hello to the horses and feed the chickens. ( at the discretion of the owner.)

The property must be cleaned thoroughly before departure, if not then a 80 euro deduction will be made from the damage deposit.

No heating provided from May onwards but if required, a small charge will be payable

If you wish to bring your dog this is possible but you must have the owners prior agreement.
All pets must be well behaved and kept under control at all times.

The Loire Valley / Maine-et-Loire region

Discover the best that the beautiful french countryside has to offer. Take your holiday at the pace that suits you best with fantastic range of activities to chose from.

Visit the nearby towns of Chinon, Saumur, Tours, Angers and Amboise to see the chateaux. Fontevraud is home to the beautiful and historic Abbey that traces closely the linked history of France and England. For the young at heart and a fun family day out visit Futurescope, or Puy de Feu the mediavel theme park close to Cholet.

Discover the local vignobles by following one of the many wine trails that are signposted throughout the area. Most of the local domanaines have an open door policy and happlily welcome you in to taste their winesat no charge and sell the wines direct to the customer at good prices.

For a quieter time the area is ideal for walking, cycling or fishing as well as having plenty of horse riding centres that offer a range of opportunities suitable for all. Explore the Loire by canoe and test your fitness by canoing down from Chinon to Saumur or try a less strenuous half route from Candis St Martin. Alternaively you can spend the day relaxing at one of the many lakes and enjoy a swim.

The Saumur / Vernoil area

Very close to the small market towns of Bauge, Noyant and Vernantes and the larger Market town of Saumur is only 20 minutes away. Saumur has a large Saturday market where fish, local produce and artisanal goods can all be purchased. There is also a small market on Wednesdays on the island in the middle of town.

Local markets are available throughout the week in one of the dfferent towns where local cheeses, meat, vegetables and wines are all available for purchase. Tours has a spectacular market located in araes across the town centre and is well worth a visit.

The museum of Jules Debois, famous french sculpture is just 5 mins drive away.

The village of Vernoil is just a 5 minute drive or 20 minutes walk through the the apple orchards and in the village you can find the boulangerie, 2 bars plus a bar/restuarant which serves meals daily. There is also a supermarket where you can stock up on all of the essentials.

In Parcay les Pins (5 minutes drive) there is a bar restaurant, boulangerie and mini supermarket along with the museum.

“Beautiful, peaceful countryside location with generous and helpful hosts.” What a wonderful time we've just had in this gite - haven't had such a relaxing holiday in years. A real oasis of calm with a characterful array of animal friends thrown in. 'Wiggins' the 9 week old kitten was a real hit with our children and they've not stopped talking about either him or the cottage since. The location was ideal for exploring the western Loire region, and the weather just perfect - most days around 25-28C. The gite itself was extremely clean, tastefully furnished and very thoughtfully equipped. The seating areas in the bedrooms were especially attractive. Our children made good use of the garden area and were out usually before breakfast! It was great having the freesat TV with English news, and the DVD player allowed our children to unwind and watch their favourite programmes before bedtime. Thank you Gillian for letting the children feed the horses - and for occupying Natasha with pruning jobs! Thank you both also for the fantastic recommendations for things to see/do - the Chateaux of Rivau and Usse were both simply magical and sites we might easily have overlooked. The Etang Parc de Loisirs was also fab and gave the children a break from being dragged round the chateaux! A word of advice: follow Gillian's directions to get to the property - don't let your sat nav lead the way. Our sat nav got us into a lot of bother on the way there. Tony's instructions for the way back (we did see the stone cows, Tony!) were spot-on and saved us a lot of stress. Sick at heart at having to leave this little bit of heaven behind and come back to dreary reality. Buoyed only by thoughts of returning asap...

“Looking for the heart of the Loire? Look no further.” We were lucky enough to find this lovely gitte to settle during our stay in the Loire. Gillian & Tony were so hospitable, we felt at home immediately. The gitte is clean and the bedrooms are a good size. Nothing was too much trouble for the owners who were on hand but never overbearing. Well placed for wine tasting within a few miles, Futurescope for the kids (an hour an a half away) and lovely walks nearby. The grown ups in our group are not dog lovers but how could we not not love Rolly & Boots? We slept like never before & returned fully re-charged. An excellent place to stay. The kids who often get homesick, didn't want to leave and that's a first. Don't construct your idea of the perfect stay, just visit Gill & Tony and enjoy all the Loire has to offer.

“A perfect paradise in Loire Valley” This lovely little two bedroom gite is set on a gorgeous farm nestled between the villages of Vernoil-le-Fourrier and Vernantes. It is only a twenty minute drive to the bustling town of Saumur, and within a 30-60 minute drive to many of the chateaus of the Loire region, canoeing/kayaking, wine caves and local wineries, and other activities. If you want to be centrally located in the Loire region and have a lovely, peaceful place to come home to, this is it. The owners are gracious, friendly and warm - they are kid-friendly, inviting our 10-year old daughter to feed the horses and collect the chicken eggs. The gite also has a fully equipped kitchen where we cooked our breakfast and most of our dinners, foregoing the cost of eating out 3 meals a day. The beds were extremely comfortable and easy on our bad backs, and the peace and quiet of the gite and the beauty of the surrounding area was incomparable. This was the perfect oasis to return to after our hustle-bustle days of sightseeing. We would come back again - no question!

A damage deposit of 200 euro is payable on arrival and will refunded in full on departure subject to the property being left as found. Failure to clean the property to the required standard will result in a deduction of 80 euro, damage will be charged at cost.

To secure a booking a deposit of 200 euro per week of rental will be requested to be paid by direct bank transfer. The remainder (plus the damage deposit) to be paid cash on arrival.

A cot, high chair and stair gate are available free of charge on prior request. A mattress and matress protector are provided for the cot but guests must bring their own cot linen.

Well behaved dogs are welcome by prior agreement with the owner
