About the home
'Le Clos des Guyons' is ideally placed to offer a relaxing holiday immersed in the vineyards of rural France. At the same time the chateaux and tourist hot spots of the famous Loire Valley are never very far away and neither are France's second and third most popular theme parks, Puy de Fou and Futurscope. The property dates back to before the french revolution but has been comprehensively modernised whilst retaining all of its original charming features. Alongside the attractive courtyard lies the pool and garden area with terrace areas, heatied pool and garden. There are two gites on the property; Le Sauvignon and Le Chenin. The former has two en-suite bedrooms and a sofa-bed and the latter one en-suite bedroom and a sofa-bed.
Our village of Le Puy Notre Dame is a village immersed in wine, there are over 60 winemakers and we have our own wine appellation, Saumur_Puy Notre Dame. The property was built way before the French Revolution and the two gites sit independently in a separate wing. The village is very attractive and is classified as both a "Petit Cité de Caractère and a "Village de Charm". Surrounded by vineyards, it houses a stunning gothic Church and has several enjoyable festivals each year.
The biggest being "Le Grand Prix Retro", where over 200 pre-1935 cars and motorbikes race through the village streets.

Further details indoors:
The building is totally renovated and offer all modern facilities but retain lots of stone and beams reflecting the character of the pre-revolutionary property.
Nestling within the courtyard of Le Clos des Guyons, the gite is approached through the huge entrance gates typical of this ancient village which leads to totally secure parking.
Further details outdoors:
Le Clos des Guyons is an old winemakers property totally enclosed within its old stone walls. There is a large courtyard with a small but pretty fountain which offers several tables with parasols and a table-tennis table. Through a gate is the garden, heated pool and terrace with an ornamental fish pool and fountain . Along one side of the courtyard is the old wine chais which also houses a mini-gym. If you turn right out of the XVIII'th century gates it is literally a two minute walk into the village centre whilst the other direction leads to the extensive vineyards.

The Loire Valley / Maine-et-Loire region

The Loire Valley must be one of the most famous regions in the world. With a wealth of history and culture, its great, imposing chateaux and its wine, it truly justifies the United Nations classifying it as one of the few World Heritage Sites in the World. Maine et Loire, our Department, rougly corresponds with the ancient dukedom of Anjou where much of the 100 years war was fought out between the (French)! King of England.. The main town is the bustling, university city of Angers, an historic masterpiece with the formidable chateau, its Angevine Gothic cathedral and its ancient buildings.
There are two Anjou's;- one is full of tourist attractions and consequently is busy and intense, the other is of timeless villages where the rhythm of life hasn't changed much in centuries. Surrounded by rolling vineyards and fields of crops or cattle they are the perfect place to watch the world go by and best described as 'picture postcard' France.
The Saumur / Le Puy Notre Dame area
Saumur is one of the prettiest of French Provincial towns. Clustered around the majestic Loire with its fairy tale chateau towering above, it has an ambiance which is dificult to surpass. From the delightful "Place St. Pierre" a pretty square full of restaurants and tables and chairs, to its world famous equestrian team "Le Cadré Noir", it has something to offer everyone.
A historical centre of the Protestant faith it's medieval protestant quarter is full of imposing buildings. You could imagine yourself walking through here with a cloak flarring around your thighs and a sword rattling at your hip. Take a trip in the horse drawn "Caleche" or take the boat down France's royal river sipping a glass of the famous Saumur sparkling wine.
Our village of Le Puy Notre Dame is the largest wine making commune in the Saumur area with over 60 winemakers. It has its own wine appellation, Saumur-Puy Notre Dame, and the village itself dates back to the 11th. century. It is full of interesting old buildings and houses a magnificent gothic church reputedly housing part of the belt of the Virgin Mary.

This was one of our best gite experiences in France. Brian and Sheila are marvelous hosts and went above and beyond to make our stay quite marvelous. The gites are charming and equipped with everything one could want. The Boulangerie was so close, we could almost smell the baguettes baking from our window. Le Puy is a Petite Cite of Character and flowers were everywhere. It is easily explored on foot. It was an excellent value for the money and we look forward to going back again! |
