Les Résidences du Château
About the home
Les Résidences du Château de Vianges is more than a family home. Guests can base themselves in Vianges (inside the Regional Park du Morvan) to travel across the magnificent Bourgogne Region, when visiting Saulieu (in particular we reciprocate guests with Bernard Loiseau) or the Route des Grands Crus towards Beaune and Dijion. It is worth the experience: hills, lakes and forests, rivers with plenty of opportunities for fishing, walking or riding, playing golf and taking part to cultural activities, as well of learning how to fly planes in the nearby private airport of Liernais (please e-mail us).
The Residences du Château de Vianges gives you the feeling of being at home, as guest of the Chateau. Instead of crowded hotels or secluded apartments, there are 4 Hectars of walled garden, a Jardin d'Hiver (in 2013 a Spa will be created) and for now you get all the comfort you need when returning from excursions and visits to cities, towns and villages, vineyards, parks.
Share "Les Residences" with your family and friends a nourishing travelling experience of culture, history, strong values and tradition, somehow forgotten, that you will re-discover and keep in your hearth and mind when back in everyday noisy and crowded lifestyle. Make it a memorable holiday.

According to the historic Côte-d'Or Departmental Archives, a local family has owned Vianges’ maison-forte until the 13th century when the property is transferred to the Cussigny family. It was Philipe Saladin de Cussigny who transformed the property from a military structure (with a defensive purpose, walls, ditches with two bridges) into a more stylish and elegant castle, following Renaissance architectural taste and fashion of that time.
The maison-forte had a secret tunnel and double water ditches (unique in the Côte-d'Or) around the main rectangular building, that has on the south side, two granges (barns) that at that time served as apartments for the local garrison.
In 1704, the castle is bought by Claude de Morey who become Marquis de Vianges in 1723 and Governor of Vézelay. In 1755 the Marquis of Mac-Mahon become propriétaire du Château ; the property will remains in the hands of the Dukes of Magenta and the Mac-Mahon family (owners of the Château de Sully), until 1998.
Today the castle still displays both 17th and 18th century perfectly restored facades, with large windows, preserved roofs and towers like in the original structure, including a characteristic pigeonnier and two portals, one facing North and the other, with turrets, facing East.
Over the last ten years Château de Vianges, already registered and listed in the exclusive French Monuments Historiques, has been currently owned and inhabited by an aristocratic family, as a private country house retreat.
