The Burgundy region

The Morvan Natural Park is a wonderful spot. Gentle hills lead down to clear, fast flowing streams which feed dozens of lakes.

The lake of St Agnan is a ten minute drive or a half hour walk. It has sandy beaches and boat rentals in high season.

Avallon is the nearest city, it has a beautiful old town with ramparts and fabulous views down the gorge. There are pavement cafes and restuarants and interesting little shops. There is a market on a Saturday.

On the edge of town is a big supermarket (Auchan) where you can buy anything from fresh produce to TV's. In the area we have TWO 3 star Michelin restaurants as well as local Inn's to suit all tastes and prices.

The nearby village of Quarre les Tombes has a market twice weekly as well as butcher, baker and a chocolate shop.

The UNESCO World Heritage site of Vezelay is a must to visit with its wonderful Basilica. Beautiful 12-13th century architecture.

There are ancient oak forests with hundreds of kilometres of marked trails for walking or biking. Within 20 minutes or less you will find mountain biking, birdwatching, lake swimming, horse riding, rock climbing, sailing, white water rafting, canyoning, quad biking, canoeing, in over 250,000 hectares of Park.

Within an hour is Dijon, the capital of Burgundy, the wine growing areas of Chablis, Beaune, Chateau Mersault.

Nearby is Vezelay, the Unesco heritage hilltop town. For chateaux visiting there are Tanlay, Bazoches and St Fargeau all in the region.

Local wildlife in the area includes wild boar, deer, red squirrels, loires, bats and badgers.

For shopping, there is a boulangerie, minimarket, bar tabac, post office and pharmacy at Rouvray, ten minutes drive away, There is also a big Auchan supermarket in Avallon 30 mins away.

There is a market in a nearby village twice a week. Both Salieu & Quarre les Tombes
