Home description
Baan Sathorn Chaophraya is the perfect place to stay whilst in Bangkok, it offers a central river location, a soothing yet vibrant river scene that enables you to detach yourself from the 24/7 bustle that can be Bangkok. The apartment is stunning and the condominium has a great infinity pool with jacuzzi. Baan Sathorn is located on the edge of Sathorn and Silom districts which are the main business areas of Bangkok. This stretch of the river is also home to the major Bangkok hotels such as The Millennium Hilton, the Oriental, The Shangri-la, the Peninsula and the Marriot.
The apartment is newly renovated and occupies the best corner of the building on the 23rd floor with the fantastic Bangkok golden view over the river and Bangkok city. The bathroom is situated in the corner - relaxing in the bath is quite special with the river and city below - pure luxury day or night. This quality apartment has the location, position, the comfort, style and that view!
On Arrival you will find fruit, tea, coffee, snacks and the fridge will contain welcoming beverages (water, milk, beer, cokes) so that you can settle in seamlessly after your journey.
Currently the apartment is quite booked up, if there is no availability email me anyway as my friend has a few similar apartments for rent.
Easy access to the rest of the City. The Skytrain station Saphan Taksin is just across the river, less than ten minutes walk over the bridge or you can use Baan Sathorn’s own ferry service to cross the river. From here, Siam the centre is 10 minutes by skytrain. There is also a pier by Saphan Taksin so you can hop on the various river transport services that are available.
The apartment has broadband internet access a laser printer and an incoming phone - a virtual office where you can keep in touch if need be.
Other apartments are available if you have a bigger party or their is no availability - please contact owner.

The Bangkok region
Bangkok is the thriving capital of Thailand, the best city in Asia!
Sathorn area
Transport: It is true that Bangkok’s roads can be quite congested at times. However the Skytrain and the underground are available to solve that situation. Best to buy a ticket for 300 baht that lasts about thirty days and gives you about 40 journeys. It takes ten minutes to get to Siam.
Personally I am not keen on Tuk-tuks as you can never really see where you are going, they are open to fumes and the price negotiations can be a bit tiresome, however they are an experience and can be useful for short journeys.
Taxi’s are very cheap compared with the UK, always ask for the journey to be on the meter, they might want to do it on a fixed price especially if you have not flagged them down or it might be particularly busy, then it is up to you but it will be more expensive.
To get back to Baan Sathorn Choaphraya the proper address that the taxi drivers will know is “Charoen (pronounced Jarron) Nakorn, soi zip ha A”, this translates to small road 15A off Charoen Nakorn road. Alternatively say the Pennisula Hotel and then guide them from there.
I try to avoid using taxis at rush hour but if I am out in Sukhumvit, near Nana or Asok for example at night, it only takes about fifteen minutes to get back, cant remember the cost but I don’t think its over 100 baht (£1.50) including tip.
If you are on your own and there is a lot of traffic about you can always get on the back of a motorbike which will save you time, its fun but could be a bit more dangerous than normal, make sure they give you a helmet.
Finally there are many river boats going up and down, the main one costs 100 baht a day for unlimited trips (get more info at the pier), but you can just do one stop if you like and it works much like a bus. Talking of buses, they are also a big source of transport around Bangkok a trip costs seven baht. I use them occasionally but am unfamiliar with the routes to make the best use of them.
Crossing the river: You can cross using Baan Sathorns own ferry (currently 6am-10am, then 3pm to 8:30pm). To get to the pier go out of the reception of the apartment building, turn right and go through the car park, past the shops and you will come to the river.
Alternatively if you go out of the building to the main road and turn right, past the park and under the road to the right is a small road that leads to the public ferry (3 baht).
Of course you can also walk across the bridge using the pedestrian sidewalks.
Food Shopping: Nearby you can see the Centre Point building across the river from the apartment, below this is Robinsons department store. Simply cross the river and to the right is Robinsons, in the basement is the food department and some restaurants which include an MK restaurant and Swensons.
The main road which is called Charoen Nakorn has to the right a Family Mart and Seven Eleven convenience stores as well as a host of other shops and restaurants, also to the left are a lot of typical delicious Thai cheap restaurants (noodles and a coke around 50 baht) and other stores selling various foods that are well worth exploring.
There are many cashpoint machines around, the nearest is a bank tucked away about 50 yards to the left along Charoen Nakorn, there is another ATM to the right outside the Family Mart.
Bottled water: This can be purchased just outside to the left of the building, from the small yellow stores. Alternatively the shop on the way to the pier sells water as well.
Massage: A good place for a Thai massage is Health Land just past Surasak BTS. To get there cross the river and get on the BTS or take a taxi, it is about 200 metres past Surasak on the main Sathorn road on the left. You can buy a book of ten massages for 2,500 Baht working out 250 Baht for a two hour session, it is a bit more expensive if you buy singularly. A tip of at least 100 Baht to the masseur at the end is the polite thing to do.
Nearby nightlife: There are a lot of five star hotels in the area that are worth exploring and can be all reached by their own boat services from the pier across the river. The Bamboo bar and the Tea rooms at the Oriental should be visited. I had the buffet dinner at the Shangri-la which was a lovely setting with an extraordinary spread and cost about 1,300 Baht (£20) plus drinks.
My recommendation for a night out nearby would be to take the boat (or Tuk-tuk) to the Hilton to the left by the river is the “Be my Guest” bar/restaurant, this is a nice riverside spot with a good atmosphere visited mainly by Thais and serves good food at a very reasonable price. To top the evening off go to the Hilton and take the lift to their 360 bar for a cocktail, jazz and the exceptional view.
There is also a “Korean style” BBQ place in between the Pennisula and Hilton, this is very cheap, some people might not like it but I enjoyed it a lot, in addition the beer is nearly as cheap as the supermarket.

Thanks for the good wishes. We had a wonderful time in your flat and really enjoyed Bangkok. Tuey-Newy gave us back the deposit before we left. Sombat lent me a Mozart DVD which I left by the television as he was away . We really enjoyed meeting him, he has such a gentle manner. Thanks again for the use of the flat. ( By the way, we decided that lek seafood at Chong Nonsi was our favourite eating spot) Cheers, Jenny and Kim.
This is our third week in Thailand and after two weeks at two different beach resorts this apartment has been "heaven". Everything has been thought of to make a relaxing break. We have been to Bangkok a few times in the past and this is the best place, by far, we have stayed in. Thankyou Jonathan for the loan of your fabulous apartment, WE WILL BE BACK!! Ray and Gill
Thanks for letting me stay in the weekend in your gorgeous flat :-) I loved Bangkok, Sumalee and Sombat made me feel very welcome and the food and shopping topped it all! Hope to be able to stay again someday... Sandy
