About the home

Part of the 14 acres owner's property , on the very top of the hill of Castang, with stunning, far reaching views and ancient stone walls lining the drive ways, the cottage is entirely independent, with own private access, swimming pool and perfect peace.
The house was recently restored using only original materials. It is decorated and furnished in harmony with its character and charm.
The entrance is via a covered terrace, open on three sides The ground floor comprises of the dining room and fully equipped kitchen, the terrace with a large table and a fixed barbecue, plus the bathroom with extra large shower, washbasin and toilet.
Upstairs are the bedrooms, one double, another a twin. A cot can be added on request.
The terrace overlooks a splendid 10x5 meter infinity pool.

The Aquitaine / Dordogne / Dordogne region

The Dordogne is a region of forest hills and valleys with numerous caves, grottes, castles, gardens, showing much of past life throughout the ages from the prehistoric times till today.
The climate is very mild and pleasant, with generous sun from spring to autumn.
The region has a merited very high reputation for excellent food and specialties, and most restaurants offer reasonably priced generous menus and local wines like Bergerac and Cahors as well as Bordeaux.

The Sarlat area

Sarlat, with its medieval town centre and typical constructions in genuine “perigord” style offers endless opportunities for combined viewing and shopping.
Most of the villages around have weekly markets and the visitor can often come across a country antics or bric-brac market.
Within 30 to 60 minutes drive from Castang are some of the loveliest villages in both Dordogne and Lot, amazing prehistoric caves and cave paintings and staggering scenery.
Close to the cottage there is endless place to walk directly into lovely unspoiled valleys with undisturbed flora and fauna.
There are riding stables about 10 minutes away as well as many canoeing hire spots all along the river banks.

Access to the property by Road : A20 to Souillac where you take direction Salignac. About 8 Km from there, turn left, direction Eyvigues. After about 1.5 Km, you reach a small hamlet called Eybenes. Turn left to drive between two small chateaux and start climbing to Castang. Drive through the village plus another 300m and turn 300° first on your left. Another 200m, you are at Maison Haute

“Just perfect” We made a very late decision to go somewhere not too far but with peaceful surroundings and a pool! We could not ask for better. The house is comfortable, clean and very practical to maintain. Life is spent around the pool and the covered terrace with the build-in BBQ. Social games are a must, although a screen, video player and a good selection of videos is provided in the first floor main bedroom. The grounds are well kept and spacious enough to give a sense of peacefulness. Shopping in the close by village of Salignac is less than a hassle and takes you across lovely landscapes and pittoresque villages. The Gite does not have Wi-fi but for those desperate to connect, the tourist office of Salignac has free Wi-fi and so does some local restaurants and bars. The Gite offers a good starting point to explore the deeper regions of the Perigord without the overcrowding. We would reconsider to return if the opportunity arises in the future.
