Just imagine your own 'petite chateau', set in the heart of the Dordogne, a region steeped in

history going back for thousands of years. Set in an hectare of private gardens, your grand maison has a unique tower with open battlements where you can gaze out over the peaceful valley and watch the sun slowly setting. What better way to enjoy your evening aperitifs?

Your holiday home is situated just minutes from key attractions such as: Sarlat, one of Frances most well preserved mediaeval villages; Beynac and Castlenaud, two of the most famous chateaux in the region; the cliff hanging village of Roque de Gageac; the prehistoric sites of Les Esyzies and the famous caves of Lascaux. This, combined with 2 large rivers for canoeing; day and night markets and hundreds of cultural events means that your holiday can be as quiet or as full as you wish.

Afterwards, lounge in the shadow of the massive stone tower, then fire up the barbecue

and enjoy dinner by the water lily pond, stocked with frogs and fish. Or, as the mercury

rises, simply relax by your own private pool, overlooking the valley, and catch up on that

reading you always meant to do. The breakfast area overlooks the pool at the front of the

house where you can enjoy croissants, breads and yogurts from our famous artisanal boulangerie, 5 minutes walk away.

Built in the mid eighteenth century, it's thick walls a testament to older, more robust building standards, Maison Grise, nonetheless has every modern convenience. It's four spacious bedrooms, (sleeping 8 in double or twin configuration) all have an ensuite bathroom, to ensure luxury with privacy. Bath towels. pool towels and hairdryers are provided.

Living in history doesn't mean you have to abandon your modern comforts. Broadband WIFI is provided, along with an IPOD/Iphone docking station, quality stereo speakers, and large digital flat screen TV. There is a washing machine, a drier and a spare freezer in the laundry (which also has a magnificent view over the valley), whilst the well equipped and spacious open plan kitchen will have you itching to release your inner Nigella (or Gordon for that matter). Outside, the lush gardens have plenty of shady areas to sit and enjoy a drink or just to gaze at the peaceful pastoral scene in the valley below.

During the high seasons, total privacy is assured as the owners do not live on site. In the off seasons, special rates can be negotiated for smaller groups or couples, as the owners will be on site. For example, the entire ground floor including the master bedroom is available from 650 Eu per week for 2 people, and with 200 Eu per room thereafter. However, privacy is still assured as you will have the whole kitchen/lounge/living area to yourselves, as you would be the only group there. Please look at the published rates, (prices are shown starting at one bedroom) with a surcharge of 200 Euros for each extra bedroom (though Easter price is for a minimum of 4). Priority though, will be given to bookings for the whole house, rather than for smaller parties. Please contact us if you need further further information.

"Living like a queen in a castle!"

I am Australian and using the internet I planned a week at Maison Gris for three couples many months before we arrived. It was a bit scarey reserving and paying for something so far away and unseen. Communications along the way between the owners and myself were almost too good to be true and it was with some trepidation when arrived at the accommodation ( more aptly described as a castle) to a real "ooooh aaaah" sight. The photos and explanation do not do the "house" justice! Everything was as represented on the web site and Ann and Charles were the most wonderful hosts who could not do enough for us. All three couples had very comfortable bedrooms and bathrooms and the living area/ kitchen space was excellent. A real highlights was the climb the tower to the top of the battlements where we had champagne with Charles and Ann to celebrate my 60th birthday......what a memory. It was October so we did not use the pool , which would have been wonderful if it had been hotter, but we did use the open fire! The area Maison Gris is located in is perfect for exploring the medieval towns and villages, central to an amazing country side. It was 6 kms out of Sarlat which is the jewel in the crown. It is definitely necessary to have a car ( TOTALLY recommend the deal with leasing a new Renault for a month in France). I cannot speak highly enough of this Holiday Letting, the whole process was very easy, incredibly affordable when shared between couples and honestly represented on the booking site! Charles did tell me that as it was after the season they would be living separately on site but would not bother us, which was as it was, but it was great to have them there. Thanks Ann and Charles you are great hosts and incredibly lucky to live in Maison Gris.

"Picture perfect"

It's hard to believe so much could be hidden, but after all this is the heart of the "south of France".
Take a lot of detours and find some gems like this picture perfect 1749 chateau, which is exactly as the owners Anne and Charles describe. What more could you want except more time to take it in. We loaded up on croissants daily and got the walk down to 6-minutes.

Tip:1/ arrive during daylight to easily find the 30-foot tower, it will help. But after dark you will meet plenty of party going French who are more willing to help a foreigner than any other place I've been to.
2/ bring spare memory for your camera

Both Anne and Charles are a wealth of knowledge on the area and have provided plenty of notes. If only I had the time to read them. We are saving up for a return canoe trip down the Dordogne river.

"A stunning home in a beautiful setting"

The chateau was everything I could have possible wished for. It was homely, well appointed and was as described and pictured. The grounds were beautiful and the setting just perfect. We were a group of 7 and the accommodation was exactly what we wanted, with us all having our own space when needed. We loved the open kitchen, lounge and dinning area which was great for hanging out as a group as were the various outside seating areas and of course the pool. We also loved the area, there were beautiful chateaus, villages, caves, local markets to visit all within very easy distances. The chateau really is in a very beautiful part of the world. Charles and Anne were helpful and charming and made the whole booking process easy and stress free. I particularly loved going to bed at night listening to the frog chorus coming through the window! We would certainly return and would highly recommend this holiday rental.

"The Perfect French Experience!"

My husband and I had the great pleasure of renting this beautiful property in May, 2010. The listing description is accurate regarding the location, accommodations and amenities. We also had the unexpected treat of being asked to join the owners and their friends on Sunday walks through the beautiful French countryside. The petite chateau is the perfect size for one to four couples or a family reunion, and it's location to the wonderful market town of Sarlat, great restaurants, the river and endless sightseeing opportunites makes it the perfect choice for all ages
