The Aquitaine / Dordogne / Dordogne region
The Dordogne, or the Périgord as it is known by the French, is one of the most beautiful regions in France. The Périgord Noir, which derives its name from the black truffles found here and its walnuts, is to be found in the triangle of Sarlat, Domme and Les Eyzies, cut through by the Dordogne and Vézère rivers. The Périgord Noir is a stunning mixture of prehistoric caves hidden in tree-covered valleys and medieval castles dating from the 100 years war. You cannot fail to be impressed by the number and variety of castles that there are to visit, as well as the multitude of cavemen dwellings and underground sites.
Sarlat area
The property is located 17 km from Sarlat, the capital of the Black Perigord. Sarlat is nestled in a small valley between the Dordogne and Vézère rivers : its surroundings with amazingly beautiful ancient roofs will capture your heart at first glance. Strolling along the paved lanes of the old town revives 1000 years of authentic architecture where, from cobblestones to lauze-roofs (flat-stones), gold typically predominates. Coming to this region any time of the year, but perhaps more particularly in late autumn, when nature best reveals its personnality, implies wishing to discover a true "art de vivre". Very close to Sarlat, one week is not enough to visit all the castles & all the tourist spots (Lascaux, Rocamadour, Les Eyzies Museum,...) each more beautiful than the last.

Access by motorway - Paris to Sarlat = 330 miles of which 300 by motorway (journey time approx. 5.30 hours)
