Le Petit Gite
Gite | 1 bedrooms | sleeps 2
Le Petit Gite is a beautifully compact and bijou newly built gite. It is well equipped and finished to a high standard. There is free WiFi available throughout the gite and in the garden.
Ideally situated in a tranquil hamlet in the heart of the Dordogne region, the property is surrounded by countryside walks and bike trails and has the advantage of stunning valley and woodland views. Although Le Petit Gite is set in a rural location it is only a few minutes drive away from beautiful market towns and villages, historical sites, the Dordogne River and many other areas of interest.
Some of the best restaurants in Perigord Noir are on the doorstep and the town of Sarlat, which is just a 7 minute drive away has many cafes, bars and tourist attractions.
For those of you feeling active you can use one of the bikes that are available to hire to cycle your way around this beautiful part of the country. We also hire out canoes as the Dordogne River, with it's lovely picnic spots and swimming is only a short distance away.
Whether it is a peaceful and relaxing holiday that you are looking for, a crazy busy one, or a mixture of the two, then Le Petit Gite is the perfect base for you.
The property has the private use of its own secure garden with a terrace and barbecue dining area and the use of a large pool just a few steps away from the gite.
Le Petit Gite is set within the grounds of La Blanquette, which is where the friendly but unintrusive owners live. The grounds cover more than 12 acres and are made up of lawned areas and woodland with winding walks. There is ample off-road parking and a secure locked store for those of you bringing your own bikes.
There is a shared token-operated washing machine, 2 tokens per week are provided, more can be purchased if needed.
A welcome hamper is provided and will be in the gite for your arrival. A typical hamper contains a bottle of Blanquette de Limoux (sparkling wine), bread, milk, cheese, butter, coffee and biscuits. Contents may vary.
Bikes and canoes are available to rent.
Bed linen, bathroom and kitchen towels are provided. Please bring your own towels to use around the pool.
An information pack with further details on the property and local area as well as ideas of things to do during your stay will be provided for you in the gite.

The Aquitaine/Dordogne region
The Dordogne region of south-west France is one of the most beautiful and popular destinations in the country. This beautiful region of France has many chateaux, wonderful medieval towns and villages and stunning unspoiled countryside.
As well as Sarlat the many amazing sights and places to visit in the Dordogne include Lascaux caves; Marqueyssac gardens; Beynac - for kayaking on the Dordogne; Chateau Castelnaud; prehistoric caves in the Vezere Valley, and many more.
Dordogne is the 3rd largest department in France. It enjoys a varied and temperate climate, the winters are a bit colder than in the UK and the summer's are glorious with the average temperature during summer time being 30°C. Autumnal days are generally bright with clear blue skies and can be surprisingly warm even into November. Spring days are crisp and bright and a joy to experience.
Sarlat is a few kilometres north of the River Dordogne. It is a medieval town that developed around a large Benedictine abbey of Carolingian origin.
Because modern history has largely passed it by, Sarlat has remained preserved and one of the towns most representative of 14th century France. It owes its current status on France's Tentative List for future nomination as a UNESCO World Heritage site to the enthusiasm of writer, resistance fighter and politician André Malraux, who, as Minister of Culture (1960–1969), restored the town and many other sites of historic significance throughout France. The centre of the old town consists of impeccably restored stone buildings and is largely car-free.
Sarlat is a pleasure to walk around, especially during the spring and autumn, or early in the morning. If you can catch the early morning sunshine on the yellow sandstone buildings, so much the better. Before setting off for your walk around Sarlat, visit the tourist office which can provide a suggested walking tour to take in the key attractions. The tourist information office is near to the cathedral.
Sarlat has many many restaurants, bars and cafes and one of the many joys of staying in Sarlat is discovering them!
