Beaux Reves Sarlat Pool Aircon
About the home
Alluring 18th-century cottage barn, faultlessly restored with tawny floor, wood-burner and dazzling church view. Wander the garden, play in the pool!
Only the honey-coloured stone walls and one window are original but you'd never guess it: this 18th-century barn has been so perfectly restored.
Four years ago it was in ruins; now it stands, complete with Pigeonnier tower, under a demure grey roof.
Here is some information on the layout:
At ground level : a huge 70m²lounge/dining area with TV, DVD.
A fully equipped kitchen area (with oven, microwave, electric hob, dishwasher and a fridge/freezer.) , and washing machine facilities in the utility room.
On the first floor: 3 en suite air conditioned bedroom with large double beds. All bedrooms have full bathroom facilities including showers and/or bath.
Outside: Patio with nice garden furniture and BBQ. Private swimming pool.
Beds made for your arrival and linens are supplied, we can also deliver bread and croissants each morning.
The nearest business to “Les Charmes” is 5 minutes walk away to a little Pub, the Black Duck run by a French family.
In Salignac, 2km away, you have a weekly “local produce market”, a supermarket, bakery, and 3 restaurants with a lovely terraces.
We frequent them regularly for fresh varied salads, local dishes, pancakes, grilled meats, cheap & cheerful wine which our guests really enjoy too.
We have other fine restaurants a short drive away and many others in Sarlat of course.
Our region is vast and full of historic sites, caves, castles, markets, beautiful villages.
We are very fortunate to be situated in the heart of the Périgord Noir, near the rivers, Lascaux and close enough to Rocamadour and Padirac.
We will be happy to help you plan your culinary and sightseeing schedule!

The Aquitaine / Dordogne / Dordogne region
Here are our recommendations for your visit …
VALLEY OF THE VEZERE
St Geniès: Very pretty village, “Lauze” stone roofs, nice market on Sunday morning and Summer Wednesday evening.
St Amand de Coly: Small lost village with eleventh century Abbey (visitors free).
Montignac: Pretty périgourdine city crossed by La Vézère with a typical market Wednesday morning. Next to the Tourist Information Centre, you can buy tickets for “La Grotte de Lascaux II” – a reproduction of a part of Lascaux, complete with prehistoric drawings.
St Leon sur Vézère: Very beautiful and highly recommended village to view, the restaurant Déjeuner sur l’Herbe, and the castle is as in a fairy tale!
La Roque Saint-Christophe: A 55,000 year old village. It is the largest and the oldest rupestral site in Occident. This cliff, located halfway between les Eyzies and Lascaux, extends for a kilometre. It was occupied by men during prehistory and later used as a fortress during the Middle Ages.
Strong House of Reignac: 15 minutes from Montignac, this is the strangest and most secret castle of the Périgord. Its splendid architecture is built into the cliff. Each room you visit offers a different perspective on prehistory.
VALLEY OF THE DORDOGNE
Sarlat: Medieval city, old stone, splendid architecture, small lanes full with surprises, beautiful daytime or at night! Market Wednesday morning and Saturdays.
Beynac: Splendid village, it was “France” during the 100 Years War. It is here that “Chocolat” was filmed with Juliette Binoche. The castle dates from the twelfth century.
La Roque Gageac: A very pretty village on the Dordogne with amazing cliffs only five minutes from Beynac.
Castelnaud: This splendid castle two minutes from Beynac was occupied by English. This castle was at war with the castle of Beynac during the 100 Years War. Home to a museum of Middle Age weaponry.
The Gardens De Marqueyssac: These gardens are splendid. Five minutes from Castelnaud, it is one from the best view points on the valley of the Dordogne. Great visit, a pleasure for families with children with its small play park.
Domme: One of the best places for views of the valley of the Dordogne. This small village is perfect for a halt. Restaurants, stores of local products, bars, ice cream and much more.
LE LOT
Martel. Lovely typical “Lot” stone village worth a “peep”.
Padirac: Gouffre de Pardirac : You will remember this visit forever. You go more than 50 metres underground and then you are guided inside the “Gouffre” on a wooden barge. We recommend you get there early for this visit because if you arrive too late, you will have a long wait.
Rocamadour: second site in France after Le Mont St Michel. This truly remarkable ancient village merits the detour. On the way back to “les Charmes” try the route that takes you through “Lacave”, very pretty indeed.
The Sarlat area
Sarlat Restaurants:
LA VIEILLE GRANGE: tel. 05 53 28 28 72
On the D704, 3 km from Sarlat center, stands this old barn which serves fairly descent grilled meats. Closed on Wednesdays.
LE BISTROT : tel. 05 53 28 28 40
Facing the Cathedral, enjoy wonderful local cooking using our regional produce. Highly recommended and reservations are suggested!
LE BISTRO DE L’OCTROI: tel. 05 53 30 83 40
This restaurant is open 7 days a week for lunch or for diner and rarely disappoints. Decent selection of local dishes, plus a good selection of sea food is found here. Many non duck dishes in a buzzy ambiance.
LA RAPIERE: tel. 05 53 59 03 13
Open 7 days a week. In front of the cathedral, one of the only descent restaurants in very central Sarlat serving traditional dishes. Service can be a little “brusque” though the food is pretty nice.
LE GRAND BLEU: tel.05 53 31 08 48
The restaurant is situated in avenue de la gare, a one minute walk from Sarlat train station. This is a fantastic restaurant run by a young couple who have already earned a Michelin star. In a simple décor you will find great food at very fair prices. A lovely experience. Closed on Sunday nights and Mondays.
