Ideally situated in a tranquil hamlet in the heart of the Dordogne region, the property is surrounded by countryside walks and bike trails and has the advantage of stunning valley and woodland views. Although Le Petit Gite is set in a rural location it is only a few minutes drive away from beautiful market towns and villages, historical sites, the Dordogne River and many other areas of interest.

Some of the best restaurants in Perigord Noir are on the doorstep and the town of Sarlat, which is just a 7 minute drive away has many cafes, bars and tourist attractions.

For those of you feeling active you can use one of the bikes that are available to hire to cycle your way around this beautiful part of the country. We also hire out canoes as the Dordogne River, with it's lovely picnic spots and swimming is only a short distance away. We'll take you and the canoe to your chosen start point and then collect you later and bring you home.

Whether it is a peaceful and relaxing holiday that you are looking for, a crazy busy one, or a mixture of the two, then Grape Cottage is the perfect base for you.

The property has the private use of its fantastic treetop terrace and a large pool just a few steps away from the gite.

There is a newly installed log burner for cozy days and nights on your Autumn/Winter holiday.

Grape Cottage is set within the grounds of La Blanquette, which is where the friendly but unintrusive owners live. The grounds cover more than 12 acres and are made up of lawned areas and woodland. There is ample off-road parking and a secure locked store for those of you bringing your own bikes.

A welcome hamper is provided and will be in the gite for your arrival. A typical hamper contains a bottle of Blanquette de Limoux (sparkling wine), bread, milk, cheese, butter, coffee and biscuits. Contents may vary.

The Aquitaine/Dordogne region

The Dordogne region of south-west France is one of the most beautiful and popular destinations in the country. This beautiful region of France has many chateaux, wonderful medieval towns and villages and stunning unspoiled countryside.

As well as Sarlat the many amazing sights and places to visit in the Dordogne include Lascaux caves; Marqueyssac gardens; Beynac - for kayaking on the Dordogne; Chateau Castelnaud; prehistoric caves in the Vezere Valley, and many more.

Dordogne is the 3rd largest department in France. It enjoys a varied and temperate climate, the winters are a bit colder than in the UK and the summer's are glorious with the average temperature during summer time being 30°C. Autumnal days are generally bright with clear blue skies and can be surprisingly warm even into November. Spring days are crisp and bright and a joy to experience.

Sarlat is a few kilometres north of the River Dordogne. It is a medieval town that developed around a large Benedictine abbey of Carolingian origin.

Because modern history has largely passed it by, Sarlat has remained preserved and one of the towns most representative of 14th century France. It owes its current status on France's Tentative List for future nomination as a UNESCO World Heritage site to the enthusiasm of writer, resistance fighter and politician André Malraux, who, as Minister of Culture (1960–1969), restored the town and many other sites of historic significance throughout France. The centre of the old town consists of impeccably restored stone buildings and is largely car-free.

Sarlat is a pleasure to walk around, especially during the spring and autumn, or early in the morning. If you can catch the early morning sunshine on the yellow sandstone buildings, so much the better. Before setting off for your walk around Sarlat, visit the tourist office which can provide a suggested walking tour to take in the key attractions. The tourist information office is near to the cathedral.

Sarlat has many many restaurants, bars and cafes and one of the many joys of staying in Sarlat is discovering them!

This lovely gite certainly exceeded our expectations. It had everything you could possibly need during your stay. The surroundings were beautiful, the pool magnificent. The welcome hamper was a very nice surprise. Very quiet location if you just want to chill out, yet the lovely city of Sarlat only 10 minutes drive away. Other wonderful sites and towns of the Dordogne area all within 30 to 40 minutes drive. We must recommend the wonderful cycle routes along the Dordogne, within easy reach of Grape Cottage.

"La Blanquette... just great."

This was the first time we have visited the area and oh boy what a fantastic place it is. Salat and the surrounding area is an absolute must for anyone. Grape cottage and the overall stay was spot on. A lovely arrival pack was a great start, very clean and well-presented accommodation and a great balcony which was perfect to appreciate the views with some cheese and wine. Good pool and the added bonus of bike rental from the owners. Highly recommended.

"Beautiful, highly recommended"

Probably the best welcome we have had upon arriving at any holiday accommodation, the owners are lovely and they even left us some goodies to help us on our way. Unfortunately our stay was only for three nights, but we will be returning for longer hopefully later in the year. Grape Cottage is a beautiful in top condition with all the appliances one needs. The location is peaceful with beautiful views with a superb terrace ideal for enjoying the sun and view. The grounds are beautiful and it's only a few minutes drive from Sarlat. We hired a car from the airport so getting to Sarlet was easy, we also drove to Domme a little further, the weather wasn't on our side on that trip!
