About the home
The cottage accommodation is only a part of what is offered to our guests.......As you pass through the electric gates and venture up the drive, with your first glimpse of the Peycibeau estate you will know that you are going to experience a wonderfully enjoyable holiday here!
The cottage is completely self-contained - entering through French doors at the front, there is also a door to the rear garden where there is a private terrace with wooden garden furniture, parasol & BBQ, and a path leads from here to the solar-heated swimming pool.
Guests staying in the cottage are also invited to enjoy the use of the magnificent summer house, which is situated near the pool and has a bathroom with a steam-shower, a bar with comfortable seating and a large dining area with a choice of cooking between the traditional bread-oven and the stone-built BBQ.
Inside the cottage there is a large living room, with a fitted and fully equiped kitchen with all the essential appliances including a microwave and a dishwasher. The washing machine is in an adjoining room. Also in the living room; a dining table and chairs, a dresser and a large comfortable sofa-bed, Satellite TV and DVD player and radio/CD player. Wi-Fi internet is available.
There are two comfortably furnished bedrooms, one double and one twin. Four persons, therefore, can be accommodated perfectly and a fifth person could sleep on the sofabed. A cot and highchair are also available.
The large bathroom, has a bath and a separate shower enclosure, basin & WC.
There is ample parking close to the house, a herb-garden outside the kitchen door, swings & slide, a trampoline, and of course the acres and acres of parkland to roam around in, woodlands to explore - or simply just laze in the sun, with a glass of chilled wine, a good book and listen to the birdsong!

Outside lighting around the garden/terrace comes on automatically at dusk. Comfy cushions on the garden furniture and luxurious sunloungers around the pool.
We try to be environmentally friendly here - the pool is solar-heated as is the hot water, we make our own bio-fuel for the tractor, we have a composter and we recycle rubbish, asking our guests to do the same.
Guests are welcome to help themselves to herbs from the herb garden just ourside the french doors of the cottage.
The Peycibeau estate encompasses many acres of land, grass meadows and woodland, as well as the gardens in the immediate vacinity of the house - not another property in sight. Guests are invited to roam around and enjoy the wild-life, flora and fauna - It is really so peaceful that you will only hear the birds singing and ocassionally the distant village bells!

Conditions
The accommodation is all on ground floor level and we have purpose-made ramps to place where there are slight discrepencies in heights at door thresholds, therefore making it suitable for wheelchairs. Certainly elderly guests will find the property very easy to get around. The shower enclosure is the step-into type, but it is large.
For anyone thinking of a longer term holiday, there is so much to explore in this area of south-west France - There is a wonderful account on our personal wesbite written by some guests who stayed in the cottage for over 6 months.
The cottage is available in July and August but only when it isn't included in a booking for the whole of the Grande-maison - Yes, you could actually rent out the whole of the Peycibeau estate! - a total of 7 bedrooms, sleeping between 14 and 18 guests - perfect for a few families holidaying together.
The Aquitaine / Dordogne / Dordogne region

In the south-west region of France the weather is usually exceptionally enjoyable - hot, but not too hot, and there is look of lushness about, rather than the parched, barren landscapes of so many other areas of Europe. May/June and September/October are particularly enjoyable months to spend in the region. Nestled between the Dordogne and the Vézere rivers, in the heart of the Perigord Noir, the region around Sarlat is studded with wonderful medieval villages; ornamental gardens and spectacular châteaux. This area is literally the home of pre-historic man, and there are numerous pre-historic caves to explore among them Lascaux II and le Gouffre de Padirac, where you can experience a boat-trip on a subterranean river 103mts below ground.
Not too far away are the elegant cities of Perigeaux, Bergerac, Cahors and Brive. And the wine-growing regions to the south and the west are havens to explore the local wine châteaux, estates and vineyards.
The Sarlat area
Although the property is secluded, and this is undoubtedly one of its main attractions, only 2km away is the local village of Carsac, with all the necessary amenities, including a boulangerie, butchers, general store, chemist, post office & cash-point, restaurants and a bar/tabac, an historic church and even a glass-blower!
The medieval town of Sarlat, 8km away, is known as the jewel in the crown of Perigord. The twice-weekly market here is one of the very best in France. And the music and theatre festivals during the summer months are not to be missed. There are many restaurants in Sarlat to enjoy the gastronomic delights of the region and the town is lit up so beautifully at night, that an after-dinner stroll is a must to soak up the truly medieval atmosphere.
If you prefer to take a more energetic route to this wonderful town, the picturesque cycle-piste runs all the way from Carsac to Sarlat in one direction, and to Souillac, approximately 15km in the other direction.
Canoeing down the river Dordogne is a MUST! Its such fun and you see everything from a different perspective - mainly the spectacular cliffs and chateaux. You can make a whole day of it - row and stop anywhere you like and swim and have a picnic. The river is not very deep, so is quite safe, even for the younger ones.
The river, just the other side of the village, is our "beach", but without the thousands of holiday-makers sharing the same patch of sand! The water is warm and beautifully clean and its so peaceful.
If wildlife is what interests you, the Peycibeau estate itself has so much to offer - we have deer grazing in the park, wild boar, rabbits and red suirrels to name a few, and some of the birds and insects are truly beautiful to observe.

This was our second time to stay in this wonderful cottage. My partner and I loved the area so much that we decided to come back again while my son and his girlfriend were visiting France. Peycibeau's location is perfect for sightseeing. It is close to Sarlet, to all the amazing castles, the Dordongre river, and walking distance to a beautiful bike/walking path. The cottage was perfect for the 4 of us since it is a 2 bedroom. We had plenty of room and, like our first visit, it was tranquil, beautiful and such a perfect place to stay. We had a really fun night having a Pizza party in the pool house. The whole stay was perfect and unforgettable! I highly recommend staying in this lovely cottage. Quite simply, the best holiday we have had. We try to holiday in France 2 or 3 times per year and have done this for a number of years. This will be the first time we will return to the same place for a second time, (already booked for next year). Everything about our stay was perfect. From the immaculate condition of the cottage on our arrival, to the shared drinks in the summer house the evening before our departure, it was everything we could have hoped for and more. I can honestly say that there is nothing about the holiday I would change. I think one of the nicest things was how much the kids (10 &6) enjoyed their holiday too. On the days when we weren't out and about, there was still plenty to keep the kids amused. Swimming in the pool and playing games, football in the field, bouncing on the trampoline. The photographs don't do justice to the amount of space in the grounds, which is great for those looking for peace and quiet, while still big enough for the kids to run around and make as much noise as they want. The area is stunningly beautiful, with loads to do for all ages. This includes the bicycle lanes which go for miles in both directions, canoeing down the Dordogne which gives a different perspective than any which can be gained from a car, climbing through the trees at the nearby Squirrel Park, I couldn't be outdone by my 6 year old. On the more relaxed days there were numerous Chateaux nearby as well as the beautiful town of Sarlat and a little further afield is the world famous St Emilion. (Well worth the effort in my opinion.) Normally I do not like to stay at property with the owners on site, but Glenn and Julia were great. They managed the balance of giving us all the space we needed, with being available for questions and help when required. In fact, I would say that their friendliness and warmth is another very positive attribute of this property. Evenings spent in the summer house, looking out over the fields watching the deer and hawks, while putting the world to rights over a couple of beers are remembered fondly. As are the pizza and barbeque evenings. Thank you!! All in all, this was a slice of heaven, to those fortunate enough to try this for themselves, I can only hope that you enjoy it as much as we did. |
