The Turkish Aegean Coast region
Nearly 1600 kilometres long, the mediterranean coast boasts beautiful, long stretches of fine sandy beeches, lapped by the warm waters of the mediterranean sea. The magnificent Taurus mountains provide a beautiful backdrop to the coast, hiding tranquil villages, where you can get a taste of real Turkish life.
Historic sites and ruins such as Ephesus and Patara are scattered amongst natural beauty along the coast. Lycians, Persians, Greeks, Romans, Byzantines and Ottomans are some of the great civilisations which have left their mark on these areas.
This region is blessed with sunshine for at least 300 days of the year, with temperatures from 20 deg+ in spring, to 35 deg+ in summer.
Sarigerme is built on the ancient site of Physilis now buried under the shifting sands. The Blue Flag beach extends 7 kilometres and is part of the National Park conservation area. Sit amongst the gardens with picnic areas nestling under Olive and Oleander trees on the edge of the beach, where you can relax watching the many yachts and boats mooring at nearby Babaada Island. Many water sports are also available from Scuba diving to Para sailing. A free shuttle bus service operates from the village to the beach.
Sarigerme Village is approximately a 10 minute walk from the Villa - however, it should be noted that this is not for very small children or elderly as the hill road is safe but steep.
The main street has many shops selling souveniers and gifts as well as a variety of restaurants and bars. There are 2 ATM machines as well as local shops who will exchange currency for you. Visit the Sunday street market where you can practice your bartering skills on purchases from T shirts to Turkish delight to name but a few.
TOURS -There are several local tour operators in Sarigerme offering a range of day trips and tours such as JeepSafari, white water rafting gulet cruising , boat trips specialising in the 12 Islands Tour, as well as scuba diving, quad biking, horse riding, golf and Traditional Turkish nights.
Area Attractions -
30 minutes to the west of Sarigerme is Dalyan and Iztuzu Beach enjoying an extraordinary natural setting on a beautiful river system which joins the 6km sandy beach to the calm waters of Lake Koycegiz. A riverboat tour is a must, where you can visit the mud baths or see the giant loggerhead turtles in their natural environment. Dalyan is also famous for its floodlit rock tombs and large archaeological site of the city of Caunos.
Olu Deniz Blue Lagoon beach is a worth while 55 minute drive away, where you can enjoy the most photographed beach in Turkey. The beautiful sand and turquiose waters are set amidst the dramatic pine hills where you can enjoy the many sports and activities available.
Fethiye has the largest market in the region and takes place every Tuesday. There is a traditional bazaar in the town centre and a great choice of restaurants to choose from. The Fish Market is a must, where you can purchase freshly caught fish and take it to one of the surrounding restaurants where they will cook the fish to your liking. There is also a large harbour where you can take a boat trip or the Ferry across to the Island of Rhodes.
Gocek is a fantastic yachting resort approximately 25 mins drive from Sarigerme. It has everything from fishing boats to millionaire Yachts. Its bay is full of islands and coves most of which can be visited on day trips with the many private or organised boat excursions. Gocek itself has has a long harbour front walk with many bars and restaurants offering a wide choice of traditional Turkish and International dishes , as well as a large main shopping area and waterside piazza. Enjoy a glass of something chilled while watching the boats sail by.

Thank you for your review especially as you are my first Turkish guest. I am very pleased you found the villa comfortable and you enjoyed the local lovely quiet area by the sea. It is a pity you encountered a problem with mosquitoes, next time you visit i will leave you some deet spray and a couple of the deterants you light like a candle, along with a bottle of wine and a few beers to help compensate.
It has been very nice of you to take the time to keep in touch by email from Istanbul through the winter and I would like to wish you and your family a happy, wealthy and healthy 2014.

"Outstanding accommodation, area and views"
Cannot fault the villa. Very clean, comfortable and well equipped. Teenage son especially enjoyed pool side sound system! Whole family loved their stay (a week was not long enough). Close to a stunning beach, and some really good restaurants (can recommend Dolphin in the village). A trip to Dalyan (about half by car) is worth taking, there you can take boat trips to see turtles (yes you actually do get to see them) and the mud baths which were great fun. Everywhere is very clean and people really friendly. Highly recommend
