The Florida / Florida Gulf Coast region
Florida has the warmest and sunniest climate in the US and climatically is virtually part of the Caribbean. The Gulf Coast has long beaches of fine white sand and a series of islands or keys mostly linked to the mainland and each other by brdges. Sarasota itself with its Lido and Siesta keys has won international prizes for the quality of the sand on its beaches. Bird life is abundant and airboat trips can be arranged in nature parks to view alligators.
Sarasota has a fine downtown area with attractive boutique shopping and excellent restaurants, the most fashionable being those on St Armand's Circle, itself a small island in the lagoon. Nearer the property there are excellent shopping malls with branches of all the main stores restaurants with international menus.
Sarasota / Meadows Country Club area
Sarasota has a Venetian Palace on a lagoon and a prestigious art gallery with masterpieces by Rubens and Italian Renaissance painters bequeathed to it by the circus magnate John Ringling. There is also a museum of the circus. One can also visit a medieval Italian theatre transported lock stock and barrel from Italy and a modern concert hall. Other attractions include botanical gardens, an aquarium, a pelican hospital and Sarasota Jungle Gardens.
The Meadows Country Club has three 18 hole golf courses, a tennis club with a swimming pool, excellent restaurants and cycle and jogging paths. Temporary membership of the golf courses with reduced green fees and use of the restaurants can be arranged with a refundable deposit of $500. One golf course is open to the public and there are many other courses nearby. There is a small shopping area in the Country Club with a coffee shop and delicatessen and two restaurants.
