A spacious two-bedroom apartment in a gated complex - 'Gilmafacho' - with wonderful sea views over the bay of São Martinho do Porto. On site facilities include three swimming pools (two with shallow areas for children), a football pitch/tennis court with a practice basket ball hoop, a squash court, pool and table tennis tables and a small gymnasium - all free for the use only of residents and guests. The 60 property complex features some pretty landscaped areas, with plenty of well-maintained lawns.

While all these facilities make Gilmafacho ideal for families with children, the accommodation and the area is also ideal for more 'mature' guests, especially in Spring and Autumn when the weather can be superb and the whole area is more tranquil.

The lounge/dining area is a generous 8m by 4.5m and the seating includes a double sofa bed. During summer, most dining will be on the patio where there is a dining table and six chairs, all protected when needed by a large parasol. (Smoking is only allowed on the patio). A high chair can be provided on request.

Bedroom 1 has a double bed and just outside it is a family bathroom with toilet, bidet, bath and shower; bedroom 2 has two single beds with an en suite shower and toilet. There is a cot in the apartment which can be used in either bedroom.

The kitchen is equipped with an oven, hob, microwave, washing machine, dishwasher and fridge freezer etc. Off the kitchen is a small utility room for storing golf clubs and other sports equipment.

The Costa de Prata/Silver Coast/Central Portugal region

São Martinho do Porto, the closest restaurants of which are just a 10 minute stroll from the complex, is a shell-shaped bay ringed by a child-friendly, sandy beach with a varied selection of restaurants, cafes, bars, shops and supermarkets plus - a few hundred metres from the apartment - a covered market (open daily except Mondays) selling a wide range of local produce. The walk back, up the hill, may take a little longer!

Sao Martinho do Porto

Óbidos - a stunning walled medieval town which is picturesque and has many festivals and celebrations throughout the year is 15 minutes' drive away. The town of Caldas da Rainha offers a huge daily fruit and veg market, a wonderful public park, plus many large supermarkets, shops and banking and is also within a 15 minute drive. The popular Foz lagoon with its surf, water sports, beach bars and restaurants is some 10 minutes away by car.

Golf - Praia del Rey Golf course - voted 'European Golf Resort of the Year 2007' at the ITAGO Awards - and Campo Real (at Torres Vedros) are both within a 35 minutes' drive - while Bom Successo and the highly impressive and brand new Royal Obidos courses are even closer.

Three minutes from the apartment by car is a good-sized InterMarche supermarket, which sells excellent wines from around 6 Euros for 5 litres - and it sells food, too! It also has a cash machine and a petrol station which is always one of the cheapest in the area. São Martinho boasts a wide range of restaurants - many serving excellent fresh fish of course - and there is a book in the apartment full of recommendations and comments by the owners of the apartment and by previous guests.
