Adega Velha is well situated for the bustling south coast and the wonderful surfing beaches of the west. Luxury rustic style kitchens, traditional bamboo ceilings and terracotta floors make this a delicious place to stay. Adega Velha is the main house and Casa Limao the adjacent detached studio linked by a covered terrace.Both have breakfast terraces with stunning views - either over the pool or a reservoir stocked with Koi carp. Children and adults alike will love to serve drinks in the bar, swim in the 12m x 5.5m pool or ramble in the undulating hills that surround the property. Four bicycles are available along with fishing gear for freshwater bass in the nearby Santa Clara reservoir.

The Algarve / Central Algarve region


Adega Velha is situated in a rural area near to the small town of Sao Marcos da Serra. The hills around are covered in cork oak and medronho (arbutus) bushes. Adega Velha still has a Medronho still that was used for making the local schnappes style spirit. Olive trees dot the landscape and there are orange and lemon trees in the grounds.
Silves and Monchique are two historic towns nearby, the former has a magnificent Crusader castle and the latter is reached by a stunning drive up through the Monchique 'serras' to the highest point in the Algarve. Caldas de Monchique is a spa town used since Roman times where you can enjoy the spa pool and have a relaxing massage and other beauty treatments. The south coast with its famous beaches is a 40 minute drive and the surfing beaches of the west coast are reached in under an hour.
The Sao Marcos da Serra area
Sao Marcos is an unspoilt little town whose main festival occurs at Easter when it is packed with people buying traditional Easter cakes and local produce from the stalls set up in the main square. There are several little grocery stores, hardware shops, a bank, church, health centre and a Post Office. A shop selling a range of locally produced food and drink is situated on the outskirts of the town 'Regional Art'.

Faro is the nearest airport and it is recommended that you hire a car. The best option is to hire the car when you book your plane ticket as this is cheaper. Directions to Adega Velha will be sent to you after you pay the deposit on your holiday. The villa is approximately 50 minutes drive from the airport.
