A Casa do Campo (the country house) consists of a recently renovated farm cottage and adjoining barn, full of typical Portuguese rustic charm and comfortably furnished, set in the peaceful hamlet of Cova da Muda in the mountains near Sao Bras de Alportel.
The property is fully walled with an electric gate, offering greater privacy. The cobbled driveway leads to a double carport. The adequately sized garden is predominantly laid to lawn and is sun-filled throughout the day. There are 2 large terraces (one each off the main house and annex) both with large umbrellas, chairs, tables and sun loungers. The built-in barbecue area is conveniently situated to the side of the main house with its own umbrella stand to shelter the cook! The sparkling new pool is 8x3m and entirely private.

The Algarve / East Algarve region
The Algarve is well known for its many Blue Flag beaches, some of the finest in Europe. The closest beaches can be found at Faro, Quarteira and Vilamoura, each about 30 minutes drive, traffic permitting! But if the peace of the country is more to your liking then you really are spoilt for choice in and around Cova da Muda. There are local dams, picnic spots and trails with magnificent panoramic views over the mountains. All within walking distance and often there's hardly another soul in sight.
It also has many top quality golf courses throughout the region. The most convenient courses for the Sao Bras area are located around Tavira, just 20 minutes away via the motorway or slightly longer (25 minutes) via the more picturesque N270 route through Santa Catarina.
Sao Bras de Alportel area
The town of Sao Bras de Alportel is a mere 5km (3 miles) away on well maintained tarred roads. Here you will find well stocked, large supermarkets, excellent (and very reasonably priced) restaurants catering for all tastes from local cuisine to Indian and Chinese. There are many cafes, shops and banks, a post office, museum, etc. There is also a local tourist bureau which is worth a visit to source local maps and places of interest. English is fairly widely spoken and communication is seldom an issue.
The larger and more bustling town of Loule is a 20 minute drive away. It is well known for its large indoor market, recently renovated and full of varied and interesting things to buy, from fresh fish, meat and vegetables to clothing, household items and curios. Saturdays are the main market days.
There are also charming, quaint villages to be found in the vast open spaces between towns, with hamlets of just four or five houses perched on a hill top. Among the attractions are Javali, Cabeca do Velho and its windmill, Corches, Pero de Amigos and Ribeira de Alportel.
If a visit to a ‘big city’ with its bars, night clubs and historic places of interest is on your list of things to do, then Faro is just 30 minutes away.
How to get there
The Algarve is very well served by a number of low cost airlines including easyJet, RyanAir, Thomson, etc., etc. which fly from many European countries to Faro airport. A Casa do Campo is only 30 minutes drive from the airport. Car hire is essential as public transport to the Sao Bras area is infrequent and would not be suitable for holiday makers. Most of the well known international car rental companies, as well as some very reasonably priced local operations, are represented at Faro airport.

Further details indoors: The main house kitchen is open-plan for maximum sociability and consists of granite work surfaces, 4 ring gas hob, microwave/grill, toaster, kettle.
The lounge contains 2 double sofas, flatscreen TV with Sky (freeview channels), DVD/CD player, VCR, radio.
The separate utility room has a washing machine, dishwasher, large fridge and equally large freezer, sink with granite surround.
The typically rural ultra-thick walls keep the interior cool and air-conditioning is not really necessary - however an electric fan is provided if necessary.
There is a 2nd level to the main house, however this is unoccupied and not available for letting.
The adjoining annex, with its own entrance, has air-conditioning, a TV with satellite connection, DVD player, dining table and "kitchenette" with fridge, microwave and tea/coffee making facilities..
