The Lazy Dog Villa
About the home
The Lazy Dog Villa is located at the south end of Bali’s most exclusive district, Sanur. The villa is situated right in the middle of all Sanur’s popular attractions, but comfortably set back off the main street in a complex, which consists of only four exclusive and uniquely designed villas. The luxurious complex has a main entrance gate, which is manned 24 hours per day by well-trained and attentive security staff, making it a very quiet and secluded area. The private driveway consists of paving blocks, which feature local leaf design and each block is unique, within this driveway there is ample room for parking whether it be a car, motorcycle or bicycle.
The entrance to the magnificent villa is through a custom built (oversized) solid teak door carved with unique Balinese designs, Once inside the front door it becomes obvious that the villa has been built to the highest of western standards, yet it still retains the Balinese ornate architecture and feel. The complete area of the villa covers approximately 420 square metres and consists of a very large open living area and two large bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms. A further bedroom is located in a purpose built cottage set slightly away from the main building. The cottage also has its own en-suite bathroom. There are elegant terrazzo floors throughout the villa and high Balinese style ceilings that are finished with elegantly sculpted bamboo. In the garden area there is a 9-metre kidney shaped pool, with areas for sunbathing or just relaxing in the shade on sun beds or “chill-out” mats.
Currently the Indonesian Electricity Company PLN is suffering from a shortage of generating facilities which means that there can be frequent and surprise power outages in Bali and thus Sanur. This is likely to continue well into 2012. So to eliminate any possibility of the Lazy Dog Villa not having power in the future we now have purchased and installed our own generator. The generator is a completely ‘standalone’ ‘super-quiet’ system from the leading American manufacturer. We have carefully selected the model in order to ensure quiet operation, quality and reliability. The system is fully automatic and starts up in around 15 seconds of the mains power going off. This means, in effect, that we a have a fully integrated back up system which allows the villa to operate as normal - completely independent of the PLN mains power supply.
The boundary walls are 2.15-2.60 metres high to provide maximum privacy, but are curved in design, which avoids that ‘boxed-in feeling’.
For those who want to partake in the beach activities; only a ten-minute walk away (or a couple of minutes away by bicycle) you will find a beautiful white sandy beach leading to the crystal clear ocean. If you are feeling too relaxed to cook or wish to taste the local culinary arts or you feel like a cool drink, just walk out onto Sanur’s main street and there are many good restaurants and cafes to chose from serving a range of high quality food from local and international menus - all at very reasonable prices.

The Living Area.
This large open area is arguably the most impressive space in the villa. It consists of the kitchen area, the living area and the dining area where four large ceiling fans are fitted to ensure that you are kept cool on the hottest day. The quality kitchen area is fitted with teak cabinets and a marble topped work area including a good size breakfast bar. It is equipped with a four-burner stove complete with oven, large refrigerator, microwave, rice cooker, electric kettle, toaster and with quality kitchen equipment, dishes, tableware glassware and cutlery to serve at least eight people. It ensures that even if you have a large family or you are entertaining you have all the things you will need. In the living area is custom-made Balinese furniture so that you are comfortable to sit and watch Satellite TV on the wide-screen TV, or watch a movie or just listen to music or just snooze after a hectic day in the sun. At the front of the living area looking over the swimming pool is the large dining table, which can seat at least eight people where you can enjoy the morning view as you eat your breakfast or have a quiet evening dinner look over the floodlit pool and garden. The open living area gives the effect of the pool and the garden become part of the living space. To the left and right of the living areas are two covered verandas where you can sit and relax in the shade in the hottest part of the day.
Smoking is allowed in these open areas
The Bedrooms
There are three large bedrooms all with air conditioning and large ceiling fans; the choice of the climate you sleep in is yours to select. Two of the three bedrooms have large king sized Balinese style beds with matching furniture. We can alternatively provide twin beds for one of these main bedrooms if so required. The dressing rooms have large teak wardrobes and en-suite bathrooms and uniquely they have an outside Balinese shower with high walls to ensure privacy. The third bedroom is an attached bungalow with its own en-suite bathroom featuring large shower, toilet and vanity area. This room contains two large Balinese style single beds and matching furniture with built in teak wardrobes with ample clothes hanging and storage space. Just the room for the teenage children who want a room set aside from the rest of the family where they can relax in their own style, but still within the confines of the villa.
HOWEVER WE INSIST THAT THERE IS NO SMOKING IN THE BEDROOMS AND BATHROOMS AS THERE IS PLENTY OF OPEN AREAS TO ENJOY YOUR SMOKE.
The Bathrooms.
Every bedroom has its own private en-suite bathroom. Two bedrooms also feature a full size bathtub, a large indoor shower, toilet, hair dryer, plus teak and marble vanities; the third one has the same layout except for the bathtub. So with the outdoor Balinese style shower attached to the two main bedrooms plus the shower next to the pool, there are five showers and two bathtubs which means there will be no waiting for that relaxing shower/bath before you move onto your next exciting activity. Hot water is at the villa is provided by a large, environmentally friendly solar panel fitted to the roof of the villa and the maid will keep you supplied with a good supply of fresh towels.

The Swimming Pool
Just down two steps from the living area you are into the 9-metre kidney shaped pool. So if you feel like swimming when you wake just open your door from all bedrooms and down two steps and you are poolside. This pool is 1.25 meters deep at one end and 1.55 meters deep at the other end with two ‘Lazy Dog’ shaped water fountains which can be turned off if you want complete silence as you relax in the garden around the pool or in the shade on the three patios
The boundary walls are 2.15-2.60 metres high to provide maximum privacy, but are curved in design, which avoids that ‘boxed-in feeling’.
Also in the garden there are many different local plants which attract birds and butterflies, so you can watch these as you lie on the sunbeds either in the sun or the shade on the three terraces.
To ensure that you feel completely comfortable, there is a shower in the garden near the pool which you can use as a cooler or turn up to hot to get rid of that sun tan oil - your choice.

The Bali / Lesser Sunda Islands / Bali region

Bali is a tropical island in the Indonesian archipelago. To us Bali is an island of hospitality, beauty, variety, serenity and incredible mystery, we have fallen under its irresistible spell and we are sure once you have experienced all this you will want more.
Bali island a perfect holiday destination for all ages with rice paddies built like giant steps into the hillside, volcanoes soaring up through the clouds, long sandy beaches, great surf, great shopping and very friendly people. The Balinese people are proud of their Hindu culture, this is reflected in their daily life and can be seen in their numerous ceremonies, festivals, temples and palaces which they encourage you to view all these things at your leisure.
Bali can be a shopper's paradise for those who are that way inclined, with modern shopping malls in Kuta, Denpasar and Nusa Dua for fixed price shopping or try bargaining at the street shops in Sanur or the large market at Sukawati, just 25 minutes car drive from Sanur. So do not fill your suitcases with expensive casual clothes purchased in your own country, but bring half empty suitcases as you buy good quality casual clothes here in Bali at very low prices, especially if you are good at bargaining!
The Sanur area
The famous fishing village of SANUR is located on the eastern coastline of Bali and is sheltered by a coral reef. The grand mountains of central Bali provide a superb view eastwards across the bay. The sheltered white soft sandy beach stretches for at least six kilometres, with sparkling tidal emerald waters. The beach is safe and numerous water sports are on offer for the energetic; swimming, snorkelling, scuba diving, outrigger sailing, hire of jet ski, para-gliding, wind surfing, kite surfing and deep sea fishing are also available. There is wide path running the entire length of the beach which it makes it easy for a leisurely stroll, an energetic early morning jog, or a relaxing cycle ride where you can stop at the many beach-side cafes for liquid refreshments or a good quality inexpensive meal.
The exclusive area of Sanur is steeped in history, some of it going back to 913 AD. In the 1930’s it became Bali’s first beach resort. The charm of Sanur lies in the relative tranquillity of its social scene with its many fun festivals and friendly locals. It is a resort for families or visitors wanting the right mix of beach and Balinese life where you can go to one of Sanur’s festivals for a day of local fun and culture such as the traditional kite-flying festival. Sanur can also be a fantastic place for a romantic getaway or just a fun family vacation or you can relax in this beach paradise. Sanur also has the immense advantage of being much nearer to inland tourist spots as it is served by a main dual-carriage way road that passes inland and not along the seafront itself. You can travel to Ubud in 40 minutes or to busy Kuta in 20 minutes or to Bali’s capital, Denpasar in 15 minutes. Sanur it is only 25 minutes from the International Airport.
A visit to Turtle Island (Serangan) by a hired boat is highly recommended for a close encounter with these beautiful sea creatures. You can try your hand at kite flying, or play a round of golf at the renowned Bali Beach golf course (avoid Sundays as it can be busy). You can also hit many golf balls at the local driving range nearby and play tennis on two clay courts close by. These facilities are not expensive; for golf you can hire clubs, shoes and trolley (golf caddies are also available); for tennis you can hire racquets, balls and, if you are really feeling lazy, ball boys, these ball boys will also be your partner or opponent if you so wish.
Deep sea fishing and diving are also available through a very well recommended local company ( Blue Fin) within a few minutes walk from the villa.
For eating out whether it be local dishes or international dishes, the prices are very reasonable and if you log onto our website, we have included a section showing the menus of three restaurants complete with current prices, just to see how these compare with other parts of the world, but beware some wines can be expensive, so check before you order.

I stayed at the Lazy Dog with my daughter and her husband, their two young children (aged 4 & 7) and my younger son. It was the perfect spot for a family holiday. From the moment Ray (the father of Kristen the owner) and Nyoman met us at the airport we were made to feel very welcome - they even sorted out our problem with a missing passport with the local immigration officials and avoided a long wait for us at the airport. The villa itself is first class - lovely layout, lovely furniture and fittings. As my daughter said - "the photos on the website do not do it justice". There was a fridge full of supplies waiting for us when we arrived, including some lovely cold beers, and it was great to just dump the bags and dive into the pool after the flight from Singapore. The villa style is much more accommodating and flexible than a hotel for a family and the Lazy Dog layout was perfect for our needs - with two adults sharing the twin bedded room and my daughter and her family using the two double bedded rooms. The bedrooms were spacious and cool, as were the bathrooms, and the beds and bedding were very comfy. The kitchen and sitting area were spacious and well equipped and all of us (especially my grandchildren) loved the pool. Ray was a great help, especially with his local knowledge - both do's and don'ts. He told us about the best local butcher when we told him we were doing a BBQ - and the steaks were great ! The villa staff Ayu & Nyoman were great and always made sure we were looked after - nothing was too much trouble. They were always helpful and happy - even to the point of teaching my granddaughter some Balinese. They helped us to arrange trips, massages and even a lovely birthday cake. Ayu also lent us her laptop for the stay. The villa location was ideal for us - Sanur is lively and has a family feel to it and the villa is near the shops, restaurants and beach but tucked away down a side road which made it very quiet at night. We had a fantastic time in Bali - and the Lazy Dog was at the heart of our stay. So a big thanks to Kristen, Ray, Ayu and Nyoman. |
