Fava Residence - Gaia Suite
Apartment | 1 bedrooms | sleeps 4
An unforgettable experience. Our goal is to make you feel that Fava is your own home and Santorini, your island.
The Fava Residences, which opened in 2013, are housed in a splendid and unique captain house of the mid 19th century, located at the highest point of the traditional village of Finikia. The architects and owners of the property, Thomas, Dora and Antonis Gavalas, started the rebuilt in the 1980's with love and care and they transformed it into a spacious and modern, though with respect to the original traditional form, summer house.
Today, the building offers its hospitality in three individual fully furnished self-catering apartments that offer a sense of 19th century history combined and harmonized with modern amenities and services, located in the heart of the most picturesque and virgin from the tourist development village of the island. Fava is just a stone's throw from the magnificent Oia and away from the crowds and noise.
You will enjoy the wonderful views over the village, the famous sunset of the island and the Aegean Sea with the close Ios, Sikinos and Folegandros islands on the horizon.
Gaia Suite is an elegant and chic traditional individual apartment of 63 m2 fitted with all the modern amenities, with 5 meter high ceilings that can accommodate 2 to 4 people, with a very large unified room that includes on different levels the living, dining and sleeping area, a large autonomous comfortable bathroom with shower, a separate fully equipped kitchen and access to a private section of the yard with spacious outdoor sitting area under the vineyard and white grape leaves.
The apartment is furnished with antiques according to the traditional naval history of the first owners. Due to the bioclimatic vernacular construction of the residence, the internal Temperature varies between 21 and 23 Degrees Celsius throughout the summer period. In the house you will also find 24-7 Wi-Fi access, plasma TV, hair dryer, iron and ironing board, CD player with Classical Music CD's and multilingual Books.
A bottle of the finest Santorini white wine or a traditional handmade quince sweet will welcome you on your house.

The Aegean Islands region
A place blessed by God and nature and yet so troubled by fate. Magnificent and wild, Santorini is unique throughout the world for its stunning natural beauty, result of the volcanic eruption of the 16th century BC. A place like a chest of rock on which the whitewashed villages hang like acrobats on the edge of the cliffs and on the other side lay beautiful black volcanic beaches and crystal clear deep waters. Apart from its incomparable beauty, the island offers relaxing moments in authentic Cycladic environment, exceptional gastronomic choices, rich nightlife and a unique study the ancient culture that has a history of over 3,500 years.
During the 18th and 19th century, the village of Oia experienced the prosperity of the naval merchandise. In Finikia lived the farmers who worked in the valley and vineyards, but also the captains of Oia had their summer homes and canavas. In the early 20th century there were over 150 canavas that were left off after the war and the devastating earthquake of 1956 brought the village to abandon. Since the mid 1970's slowly and with patience, new residents began to return and to reconstruct the old houses on permanent or holiday homes. Today, Finikia is a small, well-preserved traditional village now united with Oia with just 10 minutes walking distance. You can stay and experience the feeling of tranquility and authenticity, visiting the beautiful beaches and vineyards in the vicinity of the village.

I spent 2 weeks in this excellent place. The contact with the owner before starting the trip has been very good. The place is very clean, and proofed to be as quiet as I expected. Finika is like a maze with beautiful houses. The sunset from the place is great and I have enjoyed many of them. The hike along the rim to Thira is among the most stunning I have ever done. Instead of taking the bus back to Oia, I hiked back after a good beer. I would come back again sometime.

"Beautiful apartment in good location"
The apartment is beautiful, clean and well kitted out with reliable wifi. A great place to relax and kick back with lovely views if you fancy a day chilling. There is a choice of tavernas within a short walk and Oia only a 10 minute walk away. If you don't get a vehicle the bus runs regularly with a bus stop just a short stroll away.
The staff at the apartments are great and gave us a warm welcome and even made us some yummy pancakes.

Wonderful apartment, great space, light and layout. Lovely touches such as fresh flowers, antique furniture and lots of unusual artefacts.
We also had a mid week full linen change and some nice little treats during the week. The managers of the property could not do enough to help and direct us. The location was not on the caldera but only 10/15 mins walk to Oria and the caldera on the flat ( mainly) in a pretty village location with great sea and sunset views, it was also a very peaceful location which is something you do not get near the caldera due to traffic noise.
It was only a 3 minute walk to a nice taverna/ restaurant which was open for lunch and dinner every day.
