About the home

On the wonderful Castellabate coast there are irregular rocks as a sheer drop from the cliff to the sea. Here you find the most beautiful beaches in the Cilento’s area,rich in green and shadowy pine-woods. Hotel Pompeo is situated in this attractive landscape. It is one of the most comfortable structures because our services improve in line with foreign tourists’ growing requests.

In the restaurant you can taste traditional dishes but international food too. Low season period is usually referred to cold months when the weather is rainy; but Cilento’s weather is always mild, the temperature is about 20 degree Celsius during the winter too, so you have the possibility to go on the beach or to have special contact with nature.

The Campania region

Although Homer mentions for the first Castellabate's coast, the history of this territory is mainly linked to St Costabile Gentilcore, IV Ss.ma abbot of the Trinity of Cava de 'Tirreni. In the same year in which it was raised to the dignity of abbot, he began the construction of the Castle dell'Angelo (October 10, 1123), which then headed just him, gave rise to the name of the village: Castrum Abbatis, the Castle the abbate, castle dell'abbate, Castellabate.

The abbaziato of Costabile lasted little. He died, in fact, on 17 February 1124. The successor, the abbot Simeon, completed the construction of the manor and always helped people. Over time, Castellabate became the most important barony of Cilento. But proceed rapidly, reaching up to 1800, with this page from a volume of the historic Peter Ebner. "In 1553 the court directed sold to Castellabate known lawyer Marino Arrow, which years later sold the property purchased Carlo Caracciolo. Mary Sea, and St. Rutino Lorenzo then passed through succession (20 July 1767) of Paris, the son Angelo and this son Louis… not having descendants had the title passed to second brother Joachim… and then to the latter's son, Angelo (No. 21 in October 1782 m. 29 June 1861). This noble married Pauline Pignatelli, Princess of Belmonte, which had… Gioacchino (November 2, 1849) by letters License April 3, 1887 got to take… titles of prince of Belmonte. " [...]

Slowly, as a result of the regained relationship with the sea, many residents of Castellabate gave fisheries. A bit at a time the economy of the area, predominantly agricultural, went transformed: Towards the end of the nineteenth century, fisheries - now become a major source of income-affiancarono other activities. "The reference must be granted to the tertiary sector, which brought in marine Castellabate the birth of shipbuilding… and, not least, that the preservation and dissemination in the domestic market fish sausage and sottosale."

There is a restaurant on site which provides excellent traditional Cilento food as well as offering a fine selection of wines. The village of Santa Maria is 20 mins walk away along the beach and promenade.

The village of Santa Maria has a good selection of shops, 3 banks and a post office as well as bars, restaurants and pizzerias. There is a lively Saturday morning market which offers a range of items from cheeses and olives to clothes, bed linen and a variety of leather goods.
