This attractive, spacious apartment, situated on the upper floor of a historic building once owned by nobility, is set on the waterfront of Santa Maria di Castellabate amongst the baronial towers and grand historic residential buildings dating back to the early 18th century. The building retains many original features; heavy entrance doors open onto an aula where the arched ceiling bears the faded heraldic family stem from years ago and original rough stone steps worn by time lead you up to the apartment. From here one has stunning views across the superb blue seas as far as the Amalfi coast and the Island of Capri with the sandy beach below. The other side of the property gives onto the entrance of a grand private palazzo lined with carrub trees . The apartment is ideally situated as the shops, cafes, restaurants and general amenities are just a short stroll away.There are 2 step out balconies with sea views . The property is situated on the 2nd (top) floor( no lift). car is not necessary however parking available in a garage below buidling in a very narrow lane

The Campania region

Still largely unknown and undiscovered by tourists it also embraces other better known locatins on the Amalfi coast Excursions There are a wide selection of excursions available and within driving distance of the property: the Amalfi coast with its steep dramatic cliffs and stunning views, the villages of Vietri,Amalfi, Ravello, Positano and Sorrento further afield. The island of Capri can be visited as a day excursion and the historic sites of Paestum (20 min by car) Pompeii (1 hr car) and Velia provide a cultural insight into the historic past of the region. There are also a variety of grottoes and caves that provide a fascinating alternative as well as simply enjoying historic villages dotted about rugged hillsides where the tourists are few and far between
Santa Maria di Castellabate area
The village of santa Maria di castellabate is siutated in the beautiful and unspoilt Cilento coastline which in turn lies in the Parco Nazionale del Cilento a national parkland reserve which stretches along the coast and inland to the hills of Vallo di Diano. Offering a wonderful combination of wide sandy bays, rocky coves , verdant hillside and natural flora and fauna. The many sandy beaches around Santa maria di castellbate were recently awarded the 'bandiera blu' for their clean seas. The village of Santa maria runs parallel to the coast and offers a vareity fo shops, bars and gelarerias whilst the area boasts a wide selection of good restaurants offering genuine local cuisine.The neighbouring village of San Marco with its picturesque port can be easily reached in a short bus/car drive. The medieval village of Castellabate now under the patronage of the UNESCO can also be reached in a short bus/car drive and offers stunning views of the coast whilst one can expore it many hidden alleyways and marvel at its historic architecture.It is still an inhabited medieval village which has conserved many of it original features and boasts such personalities as Napoleon Bonaporte and Leon Caballo as past guests. There are numerous restuarants in the area serving tradtional dishes with home-growm produce and local wine. There is a local Saturday market in Santa maria and various festivals" The area is rich in history and archaelogical sites dating back to pre-Greek periods Santa Maria di Castellabate is situated 50km south of Salerno and the Amalfi coast. Its location means that it is somewhat off the 'tourist' track allowing it to preserve a natural Italian ambiance and yet is within easy reach of tourist attractions. It is ideally situated for those wishing to enjoy a holiday in a coastal region and also have access to places of historic and cultural interest. Day excursions offer the opportunity to visits the unspoilt coastline further south to Velia and Palinuro or north towards the Amalfi coast and the island of Capri. The area is well known for the production of Mozzarella cheeses in Paestum and also wine and olive oil production. There are weekly markets in and around Santa maria
