The Barlavento Islands region
Sal is a place of dramatic contrasts from its sapphire-blue seas and porcelain-white sands to its honey-coloured lunar landscape. Clinging to the isle's southern shores is the charismatic resort of Santa Maria. As soon as you clap eyes on this seaside town, you can't help but be captivated by its mismatched charm – it's like discovering a Hollywood western film set but laced with vibrantly coloured houses and a stunning snow-white beach to boot. It's an eclectic mix of the old and the modern and you're sometimes not sure whether you've found a shop or a bar until you poke your head in to find a friendly smile welcoming you in. Take a leisurely stroll through the cobbled streets where you'll find everything from trendy surf shops to colourful cafés and restaurants. Sit in the square and enjoy an al fresco meal or a freshly brewed coffee as you watch people wander by. Dive head first into watersports galore, such as surfing, windsurfing and diving. Or simply sink into the 8km of duvet-soft sands that dissolve into the translucent waters. As the sun blasts its last fiery red rays across the sky, grab a table at a beachside eatery and sample the delicious island cuisine such as tuna cooked to a spicy local recipe. End your evening in one of the lively bars or head to a disco and swing your hips to sizzling Cape Verdian beats. Santa Maria is, quite simply, the life.
Santa Maria is currently undergoing a sympathetically thought-out hotel development; however, this doesn't hinder the town's charm.

Superleuke locatie. Ruim, schoon en van alles voorzien. We hadden problemen met de boiler. Na drie keer repareren, troffen we tot onze verbazing de derde dag een spiksplinter nieuwe aan. Het strandten… More

"Great location with all you need near by."
Leme Bedje is without dout one of the best resorts in Santa Maria, its very clean and well care for. It,s location is just perfect for surfers or any one looking to unwind, the gardens are well kept, the pool is as clean as any I have ever seen. The supermarket attatched to the complex is well stocked and all the staff are so friendly and helpfull no matter where you are in this complex . With guards 24hrs a day it secure, without feeling like a prison. The appartment was clean and comfy with a well fitted kitchen and enjoyed a great view as almost all of them do it seems in this small complex. What we realy enjoyed was the peace and quiet and yet we where only 3/4mins walk to the centre of town. The surf bar right across the road is a realy cool place to sit and watch the wind surfers or relax and have a fantastic view of the sun going down while eating good food . We have been to Cape Verde before and stayed else where but this time we realy are looking forward to our next vist and will without dout be staying in Leme Bedje. If you have never been to Santa Maria I strongly recomend it, it,s a place that seems to have the charm that makes you want to keep going back. I have always moved around when picking a holiday as it,s a big world out there and this is the first time that I have felt the need to return time and time again. Be aware that Sal is a small island with an Africa culture and not everything is where it should be, or the way things are in bigger built up resorts but when you look passed all that you,ll find an island with people who care and a culture that makes you want to go back. Walking the street late at night is as safe as it could be anywhere in the world so don,t feel affraid to wonder where ever you want at any time of the day or night.
Any one thinking of going to Sal Cape Vedre I reccomened you stay at LEME BEDJE it will give you everything that you want for a stress free holiday with a home from home feeling.
