Dear Alison, being back from holiday it took quite a while to find back to normal routine! This is especially because we had such A GREAT TIME ON SAL! Thank you very much for everything: The 6 of us spent a fantastic time in your villa, sufficient space for all of us and complete equipment to find and do everything we wanted. The children loved their own pool in the garden but also the beach and the overall resort atmosphere (the litte one felt in love with all the colorful flowers). Two of us made a diving license (it was great to have a diving school that close) while the other two were having a real relaxing time with the kids. It was fantastic. We also visited some of the restaurants you recommended and really felt in love with the good and fresh food as well as the friendly service and atmosphere everywhere in Santa Maria. We bought fish at the pier in Santa Maria several times (great quality for a fantastic price) and enjoyed cooking our own meals but we also tried the local speciality "Cachuppa" (is this the right spelling?) in Café Creole. We also loved the Barracuda where we were sitting (and the children were playing) in the sand and they served fabulous dinner. Ildo was a perfect taxi driver. We called him as often as possible and were never ever disappointed. He does not only speak English very well but is also a good organizer. We loved the isle tour with him and Silvio where we learned a lot about SAL, the Cap Verdean people and their attitude. My little girl loved to drive with Ildo (she was allowed to sit in front or also stand in the back between the both front seats)! All in all we had a fantastic time and would like to thank you again. It is a lovely villa in a really lovely and relaxing area! We will not only recommend visiting Cap Verde (and your villa) but also hope to come back one day. Until then we wish you all the best! Take care, Nicole & Co.

Our family of four - including a toddler and a pre-schooler have just returned from the Villa at Tortuga Beach. We hired a car which made things much easier with the two children and although self catering wasn't perfect in terms of availability we got into a great routine. It was lovely getting fresh fish from the pier everyday, fruit/veg from the local stalls, the gorgeous bakery and using the supermarket. We ate out a bit and used the hotel grille bar/restaurant but the it took the staff quite some getting used to the fact we were charging things to the room and weren't all inclusive like many people staying at the resort. We went to beaches, the salt mines, the blue eye and did the submarine trip - but the beaches were probably the out right winner with the children although the turtle hatchery was a very, very close second (our daughter in particular enjoyed adopting a baby turtle just after it had hatched and seeing a picture of it being released into the sea). I did think the villa was beyond well equipped for self catering - one the best places we've ever stayed in. And having the small pool in teh garden was perfect as we could let the wee one sleep after lunch whilst the pre-schooler played. We also used the hotel pools - which were great - and we would've loved to have used the spa and the gym but alas no time. Hopefully next time!

"Best holiday in years - just perfect"

This was my first visit to Cape Verde, but definetly won't be the last, we did not know what to expect but it exceeded by far our expectations, we were met a t the Resort by the owners management… More

"Ruined with some plus points"

Firstly, nothing bad to say about the actual resort. The owner though promised her price was more expensive becaause you got to use owner bands, which don't exist. Shops are small and miles away, … More

RESPONSE:

Firstly I would like to point out that I an NOT in any way responsible for all inclusive packages or pricing of them within the Resort, I am responsible for renting my own villa Only. I always advise my guests against all inclusive, it is overpriced and repetitive like most all inclusive packages. People book through me and any private renters because they don't want the all inclusive package. Also the island has far too much to offer in the way of excellent restaurants and bars, not to be missed by staying in the Resort, and very reasonably priced, as per my advert.

I would also like to correct a few points, the villa is more than just ok, I think my photographs reflect this, the villa is fully air conditioned there is one unit situated upstairs and one downstairs, to which all guest have access freely to control with no cost to them, these units cost 15 Euros per day to run when the villa is occupied.

The villa does have internet access, but there is a charge which again is charged by the Hotel/Resort, and nothing to do with me.

There is a supermarket situated across the road, in the Villa Verde Resort, at times the stock is not great, but at times I have been in when it has been stocked better than some of the supermarkets in town.

I used to offer a welcome pack to the guests, but there was so few uptakes on it that I stopped asking my management company to do it, however I did take onboard about arriving and no water etc!,late at night, especially when travelling with young ones, so will now offer one as part of the rental package at no cost,

In this case I gave the guest £50.00 extra back with his deposit as a gesture of goodwill, which was not mentioned in the review.

I take my responsibility very seriously renting this villa, and welcome any feedback negative or positive, when based on fact and relevant to myself, and will always strive to improve on my service.
Alison Simpson (villa owner).

"A very acceptable holiday residence for a very mixed party (grandparents, parents, children) - the pool made it for us."

The accommodation was adequate and according to the owner is shortly to be improved by replacing the small shower cubicles - quite important for a hot weather holiday. The range of "household" equipment was very good - the washing machine was made good use of although we found the frig a little on the small side - and all the tools were available to easily cook an evening meal for 6.
The pool in the garden was used every day and we were impressed by the fact that it was cleaned and checked daily. The beach was a very short stroll away as were the hotel pools. The TV/DVD setup was much appreciated for the first few days - loads of films to watch for those who had a bit too much sun on the first day, and the satellite TV was enjoyed by those who keenly follow the football.
On the negative side, it was necessary to go into Santa Maria for almost everything that we needed by way of provisions and eating out. Although there is a little local "supermarket" its range of goods was limited and unreliable. It is also possible to buy "all-inclusive" days for food and drink from the hotel, but we found this very expensive and certainly not worth the money. It's a pity there is not an alternative on the beach for getting drinks during the day.
Overall, the villa was good but we found the island a bit disappointing and for that reason alone we'd not recommend this as a vacation destination. If you really want to go to Sal, then the villa is a very good option.

Thankyou so much for taking the time to write the review, your feedback is so important. I must say I was disappointed about the oomment you made to the villa being adequate, and would say an unfair description. This villa is equipped and furnished to the highest of standards and finished with the likes of solid granite worktops, Porcelona bathroom suites, and most of the furniture is from John lewis. however I do take on board that two of the three shower cubicles are on the smaller side and are being replaced in the future, the shower in the ensuite bathroom though is more spacious. I do agree about the prices on the Resort for the all inclusive it is overpriced and not worth it, which is why I advise to get out of the Resort and go and explore the island, where the restaurants and bars are fairly priced and most situated right on the beach with stunning views. I will forward your comments onto Sol Melia about the all inclusive standards and prices, as I have no control whatsoever about what they charge. Tortuga Beach Resort is a fantastic Resort but is definetly not worth booking an all inclusive package once you get there it is just not worth it, however to do it the odd day is ok, on the days you just want to stop in the Resort. I have been to the island many times and send out a list of recommedations of where to eat and drink and where the best supermarkets are if you want to cook or BBQ, any guests who have taken the advice on board have had a fantastic holiday which is why I take the trouble to compile and send the list to all of my guests in the first place. Thanks again for your valued comments

"Asolutely fantastic"

Absolutely fantastic holiday can't wait to go back stunning weather, beaches & food the villa was second to none outstanding comfort in a prime location villa owner alison was extrememly helpful and made the holiday go without any hitches would highly recommend this villa and would opt for self catering rather than the all inc offer as all the restaurants are set on the beach.

Thankyou so much for your lovely comments, will send your review onto Sol melia, (the Resort operator about the all inclusive package), glad you got out and seen the island properly. Just email me when you want to return. Thanks again. Alison
